Carvings

This isnt my work, but I had to share it! Forum member and fellow Fiddleback fanatic/JouFuu sheath owner, Towntrader, sent me this belated Christmas present.

The spider sheath is for me and the Bushfinger is for Andy. The craftsmanship here is AMAZING! Thank you so much Chea!

Ummmm . . . that's awesome!

Wow that is just Awesome. Would have never thought about carving something like that. That is surely talent.

Thanks guys! I had fun doing something to say thank you to Bud and Andy for all they do for us and our community!

I feel sorry for the next person who posts a carving project in this thread because you set the bar impossibly high with your knife and sheath carvings. That was very creative and fabulously executed. Andy and Bud will cherish those gifts.

This is a frog for my niece. I'll try and label the pics or at least a few of them.
I hope y'all enjoy.

Rough stock, root wood. I'm not real sure what type of wood though.

Setting the preliminary shape.

Getting the front legs carved out and other details like the shape of the mouth and eyes.

Getting the back legs shaped. Changed it from a swimming frog to a jumping frog.

Time for a stabilizing agent already soaked and pressurized, going to the toaster oven to cure the stabilizer.

After the curing, I then cut out the back feet, sanded the whole little critter and put my glossy poly on it. It will be on its way to my niece on Friday.

Great work Preston! Thanks for shows us the steps you went through. Very informative.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm actually always curious as to what the final product will look like. And am quite happy with the way the frog turned out.

Very nice Preston! The only thing missing are pics of those awesome Fiddlebacks used in the creation of the Frog!

Thanks a bunch fellas. Here is my new "carving tub". And the knives that I use to carve.

It's bigger than the bucket I used earlier. With this one I have all the shavings in the little tub.

Wow what awesome work Uncle_P! Doing those frogs feet would have made me so nervous I would have messed them up. Love the bucket, I am going to have to try that, the Walmart Bag idea I have been doing doesn't work to well hahahaha.

My uncle carves as a hobby. He uses an old 3 blade traditional folder. Im not even sure what the knife is.
This one is a sassafras root.

That turtle stick is pretty cool. The only thing missing is a Fiddleback :)

Your uncle is quite talented. I would never think of linking a stogey face with a turtle in one carving.

I apologize for the non fiddleback knives. I just got my first one yesterday, a lone star edc.
