Case Barlow is back

At approx. 15 seconds the vid shows that the screws thread into inserts, so either the screws are stripped or the inserts are spinning in the handle. Anybody try putting a screwdriver on each simultaneously?

Thank you!

I’m very happy to report that I was easily able to tighten both screws after you posted this info. Back to being pleased with this new release by Case!

Thanks for that mbkr mbkr . That clears it up. I couldn't figure out how threading screws from both sides into that narrow spring would work for very long.

On my Barlow its the 2 screws that screw into the bolster not the handle..
My handle screws ar fine..
Wonder if its to keep the pivot working properly??
John :)

It's been a week or two now that these new Barlows have been in hand; how is the upgraded steel for sharpening and edge-holding?
I've only had mine a few days, and the edges needed cleaned up out of the box. A few passes on the Sharpmaker fixed that. Just to check it out, I've been using mine for the same daily chores that I usually use my Buck 112 for, and it's been doing fine so far. It's just smaller.:)

Some will disagree, but I think using modern steels on traditional designs is a good thing, and I've always thought S35VN had about the right combination of edge holding, toughness, and ease of sharpening. For my uses, anyway. Time will tell, but I think Case did a good job on these.

Thanks, Ironbut. There have been a number of M390 stainless traditionals on the market recently, and I wonder how the S35VN compares to it.
Does anyone know how hard Case runs their S35VN? From what I've read most of the M390 is about 61-62.

I have a couple of the Lionsteel Barlows, and the M390 is definitely harder to sharpen on them. Google AI says that Case's S35VN has a hardness of between 58-61, but I don't put a lot of faith in that. Case has some S35VN knives on their web site, but I can't find any hardness specs. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place.,

I would think that it'd have to be the same sort of setup as the others. The spacer would be kind of a bushing for the blade to pivot on. Hopefully, somebody who actually knows what they're talking about will come along soon, and fill us in.:)

Well I don't know what I'm talking about, but I did get a little carried away yesterday and tore it down completely. All the sleeves and screws are the same concept and size, I compared them to each other out of curiosity. This is a terrible pic but it has all the parts laid out.
