It looks like they knew the main grind was going to run into the nail nick so they turned it up. Then they had to try to match it on the other side.

You'll never be happy. You should return it to the dealer for a refund.
You're probably right. For $500, it is an insult, isn't it?
No. I just think the OP won't be happy due to their temperment and past disappointments.
At the end of the day it's a Case factory knife even if it did cost $500. If you wanted real perfection you should have bought a real Tony Bose while he was still around.
They were closer than anything that is going to come out of the Case factory. The Case Bose series are very nice but they aren't Tony's.Tony Bose strove to make the best knives he could, but he would never have described them as perfect.
What would I do? Since you asked ...
If I was going to use it, I'd just sharpen the defects out.
If I bought it for display only (Highly unlikely. To date I've only bought knives to use. Those I didn't like after-all, I eventually gave away.) I'd probably display it blade closed, and forget about it after enough time elapsed.

If that person had taken just one more swipe each side across the sharpening wheel no one would be the wiser and this whole conversation would have been avoided. Hope he/she is reading this and taking a lesson.
