I saw the Case S35VN knives online and though it's a definite upgrade from Trusharp S35VN just doesn't get me excited.

While I was cruising around online the other day I ran across this.

SH didn't have any so I went looking and found them at a different dealer. Of all the supersteels I love CPM20CV and have dreamed of a custom with it for the blades but my knife budget isn't that big. Out of the box the knife is tight with no wobble and good w&t and very little spring gap that you really have to search for to find. After I got the burr off the blades they all cut very smoothly and it will be a while before I put my edge on it. Oh yeah, full flat grind on all blades.

Right now it's only available in the 18 and 54 pattern but I really hope they expand the range a bit and include a 75 at least.

Congrats👍
Looks like a nice little(?) stockman.
(Sorry. I don't know what Case pattern number = what knife. ☹️)

That's cool, I like seeing Case try some new things while not going into "modern traditional" territory. I am not a big fan of screwed together ugly knives, so this kind of thing is great I think. And the price is pretty fantastic on these things!

Happy to help my friend!
When my 86 year old mother saw part of my knife collection she asked me "son, how many knives do you need?"
My reply " All of them Mama, all of them."
My wife quit asking me about all the knives & guns I've acquired over the years.....and keep acquiring. Now she just wants to know how much she can get for them when I'm dead.:)

Couple of things I find interesting on this version.
First the blade is full flat ground but you can see that it is more like machine cut than belt ground. I would have liked it a bit more had the blades been hollow ground but I'm definitely not complaining.
Second the pattern number on the blade doesn't match the handle material or box. Makes me wonder if they changed their mind on handle material after stamping.

Is that as file-like as it looks in this picture or is it just the lighting?

It is somewhat file like but not rough. All the blades have it but one side each of the spey and sheepsfoot are more 'polished'. One thing I realized is that the blades aren't tumbled like 99%+ of Case production, meaning the blade tips are actually sharp not rounded.

That is nice, I like the steel used but I second the opinion that traditional mail nicks would have been better. I dislike the holes that they seem to be trying.

My rudimentary education on Case is that “10” in the model number is for micarta scales. Otherwise 6318 would be correct for bone. They must have a micarta version in the works and got the etching mixed up.

So the stockman arrived today. Nice little knife! It came sharp, but I'll need to give it a few passes on the Sharpmaker to clean things up a bit. That's my usual thing with just about any new knife I get. There are no gaps, fit & finish is good, and the snap is maybe a 5 or 6. I don't mind the cutout nail nicks at all. In fact, it makes the sheepsfoot blade pinchable. I've been a fan of the M390/CPM20CV steels and we'll see how Case's version holds an edge.

On mine, the sheepsfoot has a stonewash-like finish on one side, with no machine marks present at all, while the other side, and both sides of the clip & spey have the machine markings. I guess Case is doing a bit of experimentation.

Great to hear a good report on yours. The cutouts are growing on me especially being able to open the sheepsfoot from the mark side and to pinch it open as well.
I've emailed Case requesting they expand the 20CV lineup.
