Case CPM20CV traditional

I like the steel upgrade, for sure. But I can't get past the cutouts. I wish they had stuck with traditional pulls.
The cutouts are reminiscient of Bill Scagels. I kind of like them myself. I do understand why some would be put off by them though.
Seeing Case use a more modern steel, in something other than the Collabs and a few others, is very interesting to me. I may have to pick one up.

So the stockman arrived today. Nice little knife! It came sharp, but I'll need to give it a few passes on the Sharpmaker to clean things up a bit. That's my usual thing with just about any new knife I get. There are no gaps, fit & finish is good, and the snap is maybe a 5 or 6. I don't mind the cutout nail nicks at all. In fact, it makes the sheepsfoot blade pinchable. I've been a fan of the M390/CPM20CV steels and we'll see how Case's version holds an edge.

Looks good, and 20CV, oh boy!:thumbsup:

I have the S35VN version and I like it a lot. I like that they used the usual "Amber Bone" on yours instead of "Burnt Amber" they used on mine. The scagel holes offer a very nice grip for opening which I like, but the look of them is still taking some getting used to.

I was really tempted to get the S35VN stockman when it came out. I have a few modern knives in S35VN, and I think it's one of the best all around steels out there. It holds an edge well, yet is very tough. Easy to sharpen too.

I first purchased the amber bone stockman in S35VN and then the buffalo horn and then the buffalo horn backpocket. All are great knives and the stonewashing really sets them apart from Case's mirror shiny shine and makes we wish they did more "duller" finished blades.

I like the cutouts but I can see how they can be disliked as well.

I just found them online- still nothing about the steel hardness but the price is very reasonable!! I don’t need another knife… but will probably break down by the end of the day and order it lol

How hard are they running the steel? This one is very tempting…
I'd be interested as well but haven't found anything that tells. May have to email Case and see if they'll tell.
No matter what it is it's better than Trusharp.

I imagine if the two they are making sell well they will expand the line. I am a fan of the butter bean and the pen and would pick up one of each in this new steel!

The cutouts are kinda growing in me, but I prefer a nail nick. I don’t have experience with fancy stainless except S35VN and I’m pretty easy to satisfy, so I don’t think I’m the intended customer for this line. That said, I think it’s great case is doing nicer stainless because it’s important to a lot of people and now they don’t have to go for custom or modern folders. Good stuff!

Arrived.
As usual, my photographic skills do not do justice to the knife. It's gorgeous.
It's very well made with springs flush open and closed.
Zero blade rub, a frequent issue with Case stockmans.
Best amber bone I've ever gotten from Case. Very nice.
Excellent walk and talk. Effort to open is about 4 on a 1-10 scale.
Knife came with good usable edges. I'll fire up the diamonds and put screamers on it.
And I like the cutouts. Very useful on thin blades such as these. Very easy to open the blades.

Really like the look of these and all the good reviews. Hopefully they will be available here in the future, but i won't hold my breath. Keep the reviews coming anyone else who purchases, at least i can look at pictures.
