Case knives? Really that popular?

So is what I bought a high demand case? Not entirely sure what I lucked into.
Yes. The PB&J covers were released last year around the June timeframe. At BLADE Atlanta, SMKW as well as the Case Booth tables both had all the (at the time) PB&J models available. I recall looking on Ebay for something a couple of days after I got home from Atlanta, and all these PB&J Cases started popping up, and going for significant money....and selling. Looked on SMKW, they were all sold out. So, for whatever reason, this is one of the colors that have struck folks. The Trapper vanished about ten or fifteen minutes after they dropped last week. Speculators will gobble anything up, and it appears these are now on the radar. Treasure your Trapper, it won't be replaceable unless SMKW does another run with Case!

Like I said I lucked into it. Somebody messaged me due to a thread i have in general discussion and told me what time they were dropping and I bought it right at that time. I only bought it because I was looking for a sub $100 knife as a challenge to carry it for one year since I usually only carry high end knives. So I guess you could say I didn't really deserve to get in on it.

I just bought the smokey mountain knife works exclusive pbj trapper. Soon after I bought it they were completely out of stock again. So I guess I got lucky. Are case knives a high demand brand? It's my first case knife so if I like it I guess I need to know how difficult their knives are to come by. I guess I never thought about traditional folders being in high demand.
The PB&J is super popular with relatively low numbers made. I haven't been able to get one myself. It is also one of the few Case releases that gets GEC level of insane secondary market mark ups. 🤷‍♂️

I wouldn't say that at all. Did you click on it, see the picture, and like the color and buy it? Then congratulations on your new Trapper! I mean, "deserve" or "don't deserve" doesn't really serve in this regard, you know? Knives are for everyone. Pretty color or not, this is still a Case Trapper, and it's made to work.

I got one of these as well, and they did a really good job on this run!

This is my current love affair. Is it only a quick tryst? Something more serious? Only time will tell. The feelings are too new to make a rational decision.

On a more serious note, I haven't met a 1970s case that wasn't awesome... So maybe they're worth a look as well! I've only had a few, mind you, but they've been very nice.

Is that an 06247? I have a 3-Dot, currently my only Case.

They're tough as nails, been around forever, and have nothing to prove. Unlike a GEC knife, (and probably others) you don't have to play games, or spend a fortune on the secondary market, to get one. A lot of people collect Case XX but where they're at their best is in your pocket and being used.

Recently Case XX has started using a lot of plastic on their handles and I'm most definately not a fan of that.

Well, I'm torn. I mean, Case was using the yellow Delrin before I was a kid. I love 'em.

The "new" kids like Micarta and FRN's and different plastics. And that's how a company stays in business.

While I always prefer a bone handled Case, plastics do have their place.

A Case with micarta covers does feel pretty nice in hand. And while you can drop a bone cover and risk breaking it, good luck doing more than scuffing the micarta. And then you can always polish the scuff out.

Looks like they did a great job of grinding the tips off both of those blades, especially that clip point! Yikes!
They are both pretty much rounded at the tip. Figured that was standard seeing how it came new out if the box like that. Is that not typical of case knives?

I recently bought a couple small lockback knives and one had the tip slightly rounded, the other was nice and pointy. In the past the tips have usually been good aside from a few knives with the mirror finish, probably due to a heavy handed buffing machine operator.
