Case knives? Really that popular?

I recently bought a couple small lockback knives and one had the tip slightly rounded, the other was nice and pointy. In the past the tips have usually been good aside from a few knives with the mirror finish, probably due to a heavy handed buffing machine operator.
I'm not really stressed over it on a sub $100 knife. I didn't go into my challenge of carrying a sub $100 knife for a year with high expectations. I used it to cut up pork loin lastnight. Did some whittling with it after. I hate that it needs sharpened already but I guess that comes with the territory.
