Case Yellow Handles - Yea or Nay

I'm not real big on the newer yellow that Case is using. Like Dave, I wouldn't let it stop me if I liked the pattern. The knife Jason posted is my kind of yella. If they still used that, I'd never have another cent to my name.

Yeah, that older yellow is nice ! I had never seen it before. Kinda looks like Queen's Country Cousin yellow.

My vote is yea, even though I only have one yellow Case knife now - my sodbuster jr. I even like the new yellow. I've got to pick one up. I am wanting one of the slimline trapper.

I've got a Case Sodbuster Jr. with the synthetic yellow handles on it and I kinda of like it. It's now my Sunday-go-to-meeting in the Bible bag knife. I don't know if I'll get another to bum around with as I've got lots of others to select from but if I come to a point where I don't need a full-sized sodbuster and want something small and flat I'd get one quick as anything else.

I dig my yellow Sodbuster. The color makes it stand out from the rest of my slippies, so I tend to grab it first.

I don't mind the yellow just because of the "drop n find" factor. I've lost a couple knives that would have been found if they were bright like that (One was buried in the yard for years- http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/973268-Buried-in-the-yard-for-8-years). I'm guessing that over time, as with some other types of plastics, the yellow may age from UV exposure and darken a little. I supposed they could offer that material in a lot more solid colors as well. I bet Case will start offering even more varieties with CV blades in the future. I do love the fact the yellows are just less expensive as well.

At least from the 'old' examples I have of yellow delrin (Case, Ka-bar, Western), more often than not, it'll fade (get lighter) as it gets older. Especially if exposed to sunlight for a long time. Other factors, like polishing, can oftentimes make it look darker (this is more obvious with black delrin, especially).

Yea, I guess it would get lighter instead of darker (fading the pigmentation). My oldest yellow handle is from 2006 and it doesn't see sunlight, so no experience with long term. All my really old ones are from grandpa's collection and are other handle materials.

New member here, just though I'd chime in for one of my favorites.

I like the yellow alot, particularly the new yellow, the paler color looks a bit more like old clay or really yellowed old ivory. It's a warm color without looking overly plasticy.

That said, one of the ugliest case knives I ever saw was a slightly older sodbuster, looked like a plastic banana...but on the models with the brass pins and the nickle bolsters the yellow looks good to me.

Just picked up a slimline and a peanut on sale for well under half the price of bone, both in cv.

Yea here- my second Case knife I ever bought was a yella mini trapper. I carried that thing for about two years, 24/7/365. My first was a black soddie- so I have an affection for Case delrin. I love how the yella is easy to find if lost, it's comfortable, easy to take care of, classic and inepensive. I prefer nice vibrant red bone now, because of many of the same reasons, but I will always have a soft spot for yella delrin.

Hmm - ya learn something everyday. Yes, I'd like to see a picture of what you've done. Not for proof - just to see it. Thanks

Hi Brother Ed,

Here is my dyed orange Peanut alongside my GEC Gepetto.
Sorry for the cell picture....but you get the idea. I used Rit Tangerine
color on it and simmered for about 45 min.

Hey!!! That looks very good/nice. Thanks for showing your creation. I'll keep that in the back of my mind. Thanks again.

errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, watch handling those knives barefooted. Don't ask me how I know!!!

Oh, I assume that was salt free dye!?

it is made of a durable material and if dropped is easy to see, so yay for case yella. like others have said though the yellow could be more yellow like other examples.

Regular Rit dye. It is loaded with salt. Does not bother CV steel. Watch out on D2, though.

I'm so doing that to a case soddie- so you just threw it in a pan and simmered for 45mins?

did you follow the packet water quantity wise?

Very cool! ^
I must say that I always thought A. G. would come out with a Yellow Rucarta.

Used a soup can and approx 1/2 water and 1/2 dye. I do not think anything is critical but you want to warm up and cool down slowly to avoid thermal shocking the metal or plastic.
Rinse well.....oil up and enjoy the new color.
