Cast Away Style, All Time, Desert Island Fixed Blade Choice

Cane knife or machete. remember it needs to be soft enough to sharpen using naturally found abrasives
If its a volcanic island we can knap chips for a small blade
If its coral island then hard rock may be very hard to find

22-rimfire finally got to the girls. I was beginning to worry about you guys. The hell with knives.

These exotic knife discussions can be interesting, but we will probably find that people who actually find that people who actually live on the islands and clear land for gardens, make fires for cooking and husk coconuts will use an inexpensive machete. :D

Again. There are no coconuts in the East Siberian Sea. What if the island is there?

"Well, marcinek, that scenario is just silly. Let's get back to the serious 'inexplicably beamed to a desert island with just one knife' scenario." :D

What about an ice island off the antarctic coast? I'd go with something stainless for sure. wouldn't want the blade to rust, you know?

Can I choose the island? I'm going with Aruba. I'd carry my new SAK. It's got a bottle opener! If my wife needs help out of her bikini it's got a blade too. :)

... one with a fishing boat stored in the handle with enough fuel to make it to Aruba to rescue dog's wife!

Too soon?

....I also forgot the magic teleportation device that somehow took my knives off me and beamed me to No Knife Island. I'm sure it could beam me back.

Anyhoo, is the island covered in edible mushrooms? If so I'd want an Opinel mushroom knife.

I can see myself using it as a toothbrush :D

I would bring my Buck 124 frontiersman with me, this is a tank!
I made the handles

Hey now! I don't need no help with that mang!
But you can come along and scope out the local honeys. I hear there's plenty. :D

No worries, I'm a long standing member of the Mycological Society of America and the North American Mycological Association.

That said, how come its always a desert island? What about the Medvezhyi Islands, an uninhabited group of islands at the western end of the Kolyma Gulf of the East Siberian Sea. Or Ellef Ringnes Island, one of the Sverdrup Islands in Qikiqtaaluk Region, Nunavut, Canada. Nothing on that uninhabited blighted tip but an automated weather station.

I'm assuming that is some kind of mushroom nerd thing?:p

Could come in handy if the island is tropical, and all fungusy and stuff.:D

According to google..

Mycology is the branch of biology concerned with the study of fungi, including their genetic and biochemical properties, their taxonomy and their use to humans as a source for tinder, medicine, wine, cheese, (edible mushrooms), and entheogens, as well as their dangers, such as poisoning or infection.

A larger Busse.

Busse Battlemistress. INFI is very stain resistent. Super strong, takes insane abuse, and is very easy to sharpen.

The CG model is .25.

I had a FBMLE in satin with a few modifications. I would be happy with that one, but it was a bit rhicker. It had an unsharpend swedge, and hand shaped handles.

Plus, it's big enough to double as a paddle for the escape raft/yacht that could be built with it... ;):D

And, I could fight off sharks and pirates who try to board my home made sea going vessel.

I have a KZII, and might chose that if it had a hand smoothed handle, and was a little thinner in the belly portion of the blade. It has no distal taper, which would help it for thinner lighter vegetation.

It's not very machete like, but does fine for stripping vegetation and light branches.

Just heavy for grasses and lighter stuff.

I had a b11 that would do the trick, I guess. But for Pirate and Shark work I like the KZII or FBM LE or CG.
