"Castaway" blade?

Gifted a friend a TGULB, and his only criticism is that there is no safe way to strike a ferro rod on it.
Ya know, I've tried this with several knives. At least one of which had the spine specifically designed for ferro rods. I had bought it because of that. And that was when I decided the "key" that comes with the Swedish Army ferro rod that I always use is MUCH better than any knife spine. So, yeah, the TGULB won't work. But, that doesn't impact me.

Edited to add: it would most definitely affect me if, on Alone, the ferro key counted as a separate item in my 9. That would suck. Guess I'd be using part of the edge of the TGULB....

Can be easily fixed by filing a small flat with 90 degree edges just forward of where you may rest your thumb during detailed work. Same gripe I have with anything with meltdown treatment, you need an uncoated 90 degree edge for fire-steel and I like redundancy (many steels come with a small striker.) but the rounded edges are useful for just about everything else outdoors, easier on your thumb, support hand, batons, cordage (if fashioning a handle for a drawknife, etc)

I use a bic. I keep several in my truck. Just in case.
I actually always use a ferro rod. Even building a fire in the wood stove at home. Just to keep in practice. Plus, it’s fun to work the shavings such that they’ll catch a ferro spark.
There are times when I get defeated, still. When we’re short on time for some reason, or we’ve lost power, and I’m having difficulty.

The reality of most 90 degree spines, etc is that they have been chamfered, at least, slightly anyways. This makes it less than ideal tool for the job compared to dedicated striker with an actual hard corner. In an emergency, you just use the edge of the knife somewhere unobtrusive and repair as needed when you can, assuming you have no striker.

I've thought about it more. I would still keep the Fusion Battle Mistress for my N/A blade, but I'm going to switch my Alone blade to my Nuked Forsaken Steel Heart. I would have a multi tool for small work, so that would let me have a larger blade for whatever badassery it needed to perform. I don't know how it compares with the TGULB for weight, but I would assume they are pretty close since it has the fuller and lightened handle.

On my hr2, and a few others I've been able to hook into the choil with varying success.

More could do it if I got a diamond round file in there to 90⁰off the edges some more.

Also, the P&L statement false edge strikes some massive sparks.

Bushwacker Mistress

3/16th thick makes it slicey, but still a decent enough chopper.

You only have to chop so much wood (you only need to build one shelter) but food is a daily chore, so compromising on choppiness for slicyness is worthwhile.

INFI because you're surrounded by salt water and SR-101 wouldn't fare so well.

Also if I'm going to go mad and start talking to my knife I'd rather talk to a 'mistress' than 'Huck'.

I'd also go with a Bushwacker Mistress. Such a great blade.

I feel like I don't have enough B10 in my life.

If you don't have one for each hand, there's a VERY strong chance you don't have enough. I may or may not be speaking from actual experience, as someone who owned one of these many years ago that was received in a trade and was forced to let go of it. Also, zombies... did I mention one for each hand? Covers a lot of bases... ;) ;)

With all of the new offerings, has anyone changed their choices. After seeing the picture of the Huck Fin Ergo Battle Fusion that Mr. Brown posted, I am forced to change my Naked and Afraid blade from the Fusion Battle Mistress to the HFEBF. I've never seen one until today, and I'm in love.

That new SYclone is really really close to the HFEBF.
I think you should try it out :)
But you can always adopt my M.O. get them all :)
