"Castaway" blade?

Don't you mean the BB13 BG (Battle Grade)? That, I thought, was the thinner one, with SR101 steel. I have the Combat Grade (CG). It's pretty.... robust.
You're right. Thanks! I would take the 1311 over the BB13 for an extended involuntary stay on a tropical desert island but this isn't a Scrapyard thread.

Picking from my current collection, I’d go with the Snow Hole Flak Jack. The Pork Chop was a contender, but the weight prevents me from chocking up on it comfortably.

I have thought about a thread like this for a while, with Naked and Afraid and Alone in mind. I'm glad I found this one to resurrect. Castaway and Naked and Afraid are the same idea. One knife to do it all. Alone on the other hand, you get to pick one to pair with your nine other items. I don't have enough experience with Busse/kin to make an actual educated statement, so I'm just going off of the pretty pictures that you all have posted. Let's follow the original rules: Must pick ONE knife. No "this or that".

Naked/Afraid, I'd go with a Fusion Battle Mistress.
Alone: I would go with the Satin Jack TAC. Looks like a good all around blade.

Again, with my inexperience, I'm just going off of pictures.

I’m still holding out for INFI Trash 2. I think any basic over 7 would do. Not much hard wood on the island, don’t need .27 stock. SR101 would rust like crazy, as would SR77. INFI would be king.

What about a cerakoted trash2? I wouldnt be worried about a few rust spots showing up on the edge, use will keep them from doing damage.

I can only choose based on what I have, while I think my D-Guard Battle Mistress would be my go to thickness of my Trough Raider , the Recurve and Infi would be great but in the end I would have to pick the TGULB. I think it will get the job done, be more slicey (is that a word?) And if it was to let me down I'd have Jerry and a chopper full of "Real Special Dudes" in route to show me what I did wrong (and save me ass) ...

I'm deciding between a few... the Forsaken Mistress, ASHBM, JH-10, B11, 1311, TGULB...

Both Mistress would be formidable choppers... Great for shelter-making and anything else you'd throw at it. I like the length of the mistresses; although the Fusion handle offers multiple grip positions, the Straight Handle is SO much more comfortable for me. But these would lose out due to heft and limited gains for that heft in these situations. I'm just not sure how much heavy chopping I would need to do.

The Basic 11 and 1311 would be really nice as they have good reach, are lighter, and Res-C is awesome and comfortable. I might prefer M-INFI over SR-101 for the strength... But I'm not too sure how much difference they'll actually be, since both are thinner (which also means lighter!). These two would trade forward heft for swing speed to chop with - a trade that is likely much more useful.

JH-10 is light and nimble, yet has enough length to do a lot of serious work... Not heavy enough to be a dedicated chopper, but that lightness also makes it a very nice carrying knife, comparing nicely with the Basic 11 or 1311. The added benefit of the slightly increased thickness for toughness is reassuring; the g-10 scales has more potential lashing points than Res-C; the JH-10's grip design happens to be VERY comfortable for me.

TGULB is a great knife, but I think it'll do no better than the JH-10 in this scenario, but lose out on length and therefore also versatility.

In a Castaway/N&A survival situation, I think the JH-10 may be the one I'd take. 10" is plenty to be super useful, and the lightweight and ideal balance means it'll cost me less energy to wield in the long run, and also less likely of injuring myself during use when I'm tied, weak, and/or otherwise compromised. INFI is almost stainless, and strong enough to take whatever I would use it for in a survival situation (combating the elements/wilderness, not armed conflicts).

I, too, am glad you brought this thread back up. My Busse stable has changed significantly since my original replies, although my choice has only changed slightly.

I also like the slight divergence in topic, away from JUST "Castaway," to Castaway/N&A or Alone.

For C/N&A, I would pick the SYKCO AR 9.5, due to the size, the INFI, and the Res-C. Res-C proved itself to me in the CGBB13 vs. John Deere incident, and I have used the crap out of my AR 9.5 around the yard/homestead, and it has never failed to impress me. With the size, the shape of the blade, everything, I think it would be the knife I would most want with me if I got stranded.

For Alone, I actually wouldn't go much smaller, but I would go lighter. Since I now have a TGULB, it would be one of my 9 items.
