Catastrophic failure of a Fox 599-XT. Customer service only made excuses. My opinion: stay away.

How could the tang be bent laterally enough to cause that break? It would take some serious effort to even bend it, let alone bend it repeatedly enough to cause a failure from fatigue. To bend it enough to cause a fatigue crack the handle would be bent and the pivot broken. If anything, you'd have to strike the blade from the side with a hammer or put it in a vice and bend it using the handle as a lever to snap it off like that. The pictures clearly show a knife that looks new and undamaged other than a broken tang.
Again you can't "force it" with the secondary lock engaged. The blade won't move if it is engaged, it won't engage if the blade is closed.

Look at the picture I posted of the broken piece. It is clearly bent, and there is a stress crack at the bend… like I said. Have no idea how it bent, just speculating

If OP is misrepresenting the facts ...that's an entirely different story .

That's the "$64,000 question," isn't it?

Is the OP being "honest" about how the blade broke or not? The trend in this thread seems to be that "he's not" and I am in that camp.

He is also posting it on reddit and other forums.

Interesting that the OP has been essentially silent since the trend has moved against him.

I'd be interested to know if his claims there are being accepted or challenged as they have been here.

Ultimately what happened to the knife doesn’t matter as Fox has taken responsibility. What does matter is that OP approached this matter horribly, jumped the gun, and absolutely attempted to color the narrative in his favor by excluding his abrasive email to Fox.

I don't see how the tang could possibly break like that unless it was defective to begin with. There is no evidence that "something awful" was done to that knife. Making baseless accusations is pointless.
As others have stated, he was quite likely forcing it open with the lock engaged.

Even if he waved it with the strength of 10 men (or one Riddick), it shouldn't have broken like that.

The sentiment was essentially the same there. Most of the comments acknowledged it was bad it happened but that OP was being a “Karen” and a jerk to customer service. He continued to throw a temper tantrum and called everyone Fox shills because he couldn’t fathom the fact that he may have been out of line, and wasn’t entitled to a bribe.

S Seek_Equilibrium could have been honest with everyone and said that no matter what the response from Fox was, he was going to shit on them and their products all over the internet. His email to them stated as such because with his wording, no amount of apology or help would have been good enough.

His words: “Unless you make some extraordinary efforts in terms of customer service, you have lost a knife enthusiast customer forever, and I will tell everyone I know on every blade forum to avoid your company like the plague.” This statement leaves the door wide open for them to “disappoint” the OP and allow him to begin his crusade.

What’s even funnier is S Seek_Equilibrium is a total liar because he isn’t just telling the people he knows, he’s just blinding shooting his drivel at whoever wants to read it 😂. I do like that a few people called him out over his other posts on Reddit claiming they aren’t surprised at his overreaction and nonsense.

This debacle perfectly illustrates the problem with social media: a person lacking all credibility can find a platform and an audience that they otherwise don’t deserve.

Way to go, S Seek_Equilibrium , you’ve kept my faith in social media at the absolute minimum.o_O

This thread should be closed and moved to stop providing worthless fodder for search engines.

The initial email is definitely very Karen, and if you start a conversation from that, I don't know what you'd expect to get back except exactly what the CS rep replied with--or worse. If you come into a store and immediately start yelling at the cashier, all you're going to get is someone telling you to calm down, and whatever got you mad is not going to be the main topic.

But, putting aside as an unknown whatever the OP was doing when it broke, I'd probably be a bit mad if my new knife broke and cut me as well.

Who the hell decides to force anything that has moving parts and isn’t behaving normally? Why not put the knife down, walk away for an hour or so to clear your head, and then pick it back up when you’ve come to your senses?

“Oh no, something went wrong, how could this have happened?…it’s definitely not MY fault!”

I would still buy a Fox knife after all this. If this failure was indeed caused by a lock stuck on it's 100% his fault, and if not I believe this failure would be 1 in 100,000.

Yeah and what happens when something won't go and you repeatedly force it?

Do things eventually give way and break or does nothing ever happen because lock means it can't open?

Right, but why do you think someone who reports an alleged warranty/QC issue with a demand for a bribe and a threat to ruin their reputation would be telling the truth about how it happened? Maybe he did simply wave it open like a regular person a few hundred times, but why would we believe that someone so actively malicious is telling us the whole story on this one detail? They're hiding their own belligerent behavior and misrepresenting a patient and responsive customer service experience as somehow bad for them, personally that leads me to believe they are not a truthful person and shouldn't be given the benefit of the doubt.

The plague is transmitted by a flea bite. It has nothing to do with breaking some freaky looking knife.
