CAUTION DEALING WITH LYFSFUN

I'm not sure I understand why there's anything worth arguing about here ... if the set of knives is mint and worth $1,000 - $1,500, why not take them back and sell them to someone else for what they're worth? The difference should cover the shipping charges....

Just for the record, I have had 2 deals with Frodo and they went off without a hitch and he does know knives. Not taking sides here but thought I would just throw this in.

Methinks Frodo has a point. I would certainly exercise caution before dealing with a gentleman asking $600 for a knife that retails for $475.

I can certainly understand being annoyed, but ... I'm not quite sure how to put this....

If you take them back there might conceivably be some doubt in some people's minds that just maybe you did deliberately exaggerate the pristine condition of the knives ... some people might not be completely sure that you didn't. Even at worst, though, they'll be sure that you can be trusted to abide by the law.

If you don't, though, there is no question at all that you've broken the law. The law says any mail-order customer has the right to return goods once he has a look at them. The law doesn't make any exception for people who annoy you....

P.S. Frodo has posted again in another thread and explained he doesn't think Lyfsfun had any dishonest intentions ... he also said he sent the shipping charge.

Cougar and Les, I appreciate the information on a buyers rights in a mail order transaction. Had I known that a few months ago, it might've saved me some grief. To me, if it's a grading dispute then the buyer should have the right to return the goods in the condition he received them and get his money back, less postage at most. Bruce

Also note that the seller has the right to get them back in the same condition that they were in when they were sold. If he doesn't, then he has 3 days to return them to the buyer, and then..........

I feel bad that this turned out to be a thread that cast aspersions on Ed as a gentleman. All because someone couldn't wait until he got a reply from a man who was out of town

I wish someone would lock this thread and be done with it.

My 0.02: I have been a Case dealer for over 2 decades and MINT from the case factory has varied from time to time. I am not here to bash case, as i feel they are the most collectable line of knives i have ever stocked, but loose blades and "faded" handles have arrived direct from bradford in my store from time to time. I have many MINT case knives from years past that came to me direct from bradford and even tho i know they are MINT (as manufactured and shipped from factory) could be picked apart and construed as less than MINT. As a dealer/seller i have learned from this thread..i will get on phone with prospective buyer and give details about each knife if there is any question about its condition. Peace.md

I've been sitting back watching this unfold, and I'll give a couple of quick opinions.First;I have no doubt that both sides are honorable and full of integrity,so I'm not taking sides of who's right. It sounds to me just a difference of opinion in grading,no big deal as long as the selling party does right by the buyer. My main two comment are this,no offense to LYFSFUN,but unless a post of yours contains some kind of offensive information or comments,At least I feel in my opinion that it is in poor forum etiquette to delete all your posts in between other posts. It throws off the whole thread, making people look stupid responding to someones comment that is no longer there. It also makes it look like your hideing something when you delete everything you posted.I happen to have been reading as it unfolded,so I personnaly recall most of what you posted. One last comment or opinion of mine is this,Disregarding the occassional knife that may have had an increase in value etc.etc.If the main purpose of most of what a persons sales/trades in this forum is to come out ahead or make money/profit etc.no matter what your normal day job is,This means you are a dealer, whether its on a small or large scale part time or full time is irrelevent. There is nothing more annoying than someone thats doing a decent amount of business in the private for sale forums giving the appearance of being a dealer but claims to be just a collector selling a few pieces that just happen to be turning a profit.Let me make clear(before I get blasted)I have no problem with someone that does alot of dealing, whom may have a large collection and make lots of F/S/ F/T posts.I also don't have a problem if someone makes money, because their knives went up in value,in these cases making money is incidental. If your not a dealer than thats fine, nothing wrong with coming out on top once in a while, but a pattern certainly would
make me wonder how honest your being with yourself and formites regarding your motives. If your a dealer than be honest with yourself and us and please operate openly as such.My two cents,Ralph & Merry Christmas to All!

i just completed a deal with lyfsfun on a large sebenza....he sent me a large sebenza that was exactly as he had described (mint/unused) and had a very fair price on it....the transaction went smoothly and there was good communication throughout the deal....i will not hesitate to trade/buy/sell with him again....feverdoc

So everyone knows I deleted all my post hopeing that would stop the remarks and e mail. I know I trade alot. My job for years was doing just that. Only it was U.S. gov. bonds. In my employment as a trader my job was to buy low and sell high. There were days that I would buy or sell over a hundred times a day. I ran a bond trading desk buying and selling for several hundred accounts, with 200 or so salesmen. It's second nature for me to move fast and often.I have alot of knives and I have been trying to move into more art and 1 of customs. I have sold knives at a profit and also at a loss to use the money for customs that I wanted.I always figured a dealer was a guy with a storefront, web sites, salesmen, and able to buy direct from the factory. Maybe the forum needs to limit everyone to no more that 1 knife for sale per month or at any given time no more than 1 post for 1 knife for sale. Then you know no ( dealers ?? ) were using it. If some one in charge will outline when you become a dealer and not a active collector, I will be more that happy to go along with the forums rules. I do know the amount of knives I have sold here is very small compared to others. I wish I could make everybody happy but we all know thats never going to happen. It seems no matter what I do or say there is always someone finding something wrong, again thats why I took down all of my post includeing the for sale ot trade ones. I really don't know what else to say. Ed

I will keep this posting brief...Having dealt with LYFSFUN (Ed) over the last week or 2 let me say our transaction was nothing short of PERFECT, PERFECT, PERFECT. Communication has been EXCELLENT. I would like to also add that SOME of the comments left by others are TOTALLY ABSURD, bordering on OBSCENE. I find it rather sickening.

I made a trade deal with LYFSFUN earlier in the week. I traded him a MINT Small Plain Sebenza for a MT Mini-UDT, and when I got it today, it was just as described--TOTALLY DEAD MINT! Perfect in every way. It was a pleasure doing business with Ed, and will do so again without hesitation. I agree with some of the earlier replies--that the whole thing between Ed and frodo is nothing more than an unfortunate understanding--trade knives long enough and it's going to happen, to some degree, to all of us. I would like to see them work the problem out between themselves also. Later.

Take it easy,
RC

I have realized that I once did a deal with Frodo. The deal was not only top notch, but Frodo sent me some very nice (VERY NICE) Elvis memorabilia as a friendly gesture toward a fellow Elvis fan. The guy was just plain nice momma, uh hum hum yeah.... I appreciate it David!

Having said that, I don't believe there is bad intent on Frodo's part. But I'm not convinced that there was bad intent on LYFSFUN's part either. In fact, I've seen positive posts about LYFSFUN from people I know here.

I do think there is enough clarification of intent here for the transaction to work out reasonably. Talk to each other by email guys, and let us all know the happy results!

It's Christmas and Hannukah for Bladeforums' sake.
