Cavalcade of Carvers (preferably folders)

Hello! I'm brand new to this forum and joined because I was surfing the web researching about whittling knives and found this thread. It's already answered many questions I've had a frustrating time trying to answer so thank you!

Welcome! That's exactly how I landed here. :)

I'm looking forward to seeing what you've been working on when you're set up to post pictures.

I recently picked up this Schrade USA 34 OT for $9.13 to my door. I'm going clean it up and reshape the (non-existent) bevels for whittling.

I love my Congress Carver so far. It takes a VERY sharp edge, and handles well.

I have that knife, now twice and I'm thinking that Boker may have produced different versions based on the newer acquisition.

My first Congress carver had rounded wood scales and smooth rounded bolsters with "Tree Brand Classic" etched into the main blade. The blades are all an 8-9 pull with a couple having actually taken the claim of breaking my nail.tmp_14886-20170727_082624-1328302868.jpg
I just picked up a new (maybe old) copy of the same knife and this one has flat scales that round on the transition to the bolster which is angled on the tips. tmp_14886-20170727_082609-707528962.jpg The blade is etched simply "Boker". The blades are all about a 4 for pull.tmp_14886-20170727_082650-1377783710.jpg
Anybody know about there being a production change on these?tmp_14886-20170727_0825261169051891.jpg
I'd like to sharpen the holy heck out of one but would rather not if one is worth keeping unaltered.

I will say that I used the original one a bit and the steel seems quite hard as it took longer to sharpen than my various Rough Rider and Colt knives ever did and that it can draw blood every bit as well as any other knife I've used, possibly better.tmp_14886-20150522_142310-1593909375.jpg

I bought mine in 2013. I'd say it's similar to your newer one, except the blade pulls a little harder, maybe a 6 or 7.

Mine is like the top knife in your first picture. Bought it new about 2 years ago. I have drawn more accidental blood with that knife than any other. I have the blades profiled to around 8-10 dps, and it will cut you if you look at it ugly.

Not sure if I am following the conversation correctly, but Boker does produce at least two models of Congress knives, both made in Solingen. One is specifically designed for carving, having been designed by a champion carver. The other has a different selection of blades. I borrowed these pics from Knifecenter, a BF dealer member. Carver first.

Both of mine are the Congress Carver but, from the pictures, it looks like one of them has the standard congress style scales and different bolsters than either.
Maybe I should start up a new thread to keep from derailing this one too much and let folks get back to posting their favorite carvers and wood carvings.

Oh and it looks like the bolsters are different. Yours has the bolsters of my original with the acales from my newer one.
It may not show in the picture, but it's got the bevels at the ends of the bolsters, possibly a bit over-polished at the factory.
