Cf/s90v 940-1

Personally I think this knife will be awesome. The lighter a knife the better for me. I got over needing a lead weight to feel "quality" a long time ago!

My concern would be balance. How well balanced are the carbon fiber knives? Handle to blade balance when opened?

I would still want to know a lot more about S90V at 58-60 before considering booting my CPM-M4. I'm so content with the performance.

Jesse B.,

Thanks for the information. Sounds like you are really happy with the 940. I'm inclined to agree with jkarp_53's thoughts/comments - I'm interested, but believe I'll wait and see if a G10 handle version is released in the near future.

To me S90V is The attraction. CF, G10, micarta, aluminum, TI makes no difference. It's a 940 in S90V!

Good news. 940-1 is in the 2014 benchmade catalog, I believe that means it is a regular production knife.

The catalog is out on there site? Wow I just looked like yesterday and it want there. Great!

You won't be sad once you have it I'm sure. You will soon forget a few $$$. I know I will. Putting that thing in my pocket will bring a smile to my face each time. I know I will have trouble picking my daily carry in 2014 once I get my hands on the 940-1 and 531. Gonna kick around the mini-grips and 707's for sure.

All I can tell you about the balance is that the CF 940 balances more up front than in the hand compared to the aluminum handled versions.

As far as Rc level, this is basically where Spyderco ran the Military S90V, which is all I need to know.

That's good to know. I realize different steels have different ideal target ranges.

Hopefully someone will chime in with more use data once these are in hand!

Thanks!

Just saw you guys quoting 58-60, that's the s30v version. S90v is listed at 59-61... so just a hair better.

I like it, not sure I like it for $265, but with S90V and carbon fiber handles (worse than G10 for real use IMO especially since it's not rough textured, but better than AL!) I had a 940 for awhile but the AL handle was a deal killer, so this and better steel might put it back in the lineup. With so many high end steel offerings these days I think I'm probably going to slowly swap out a lot of them for better steel versions, at least as long as a person can get pre-order prices or it's a regular offering and wait for a nice used sample.

The normal 940 is $210 so it's basically $100 premium for carbon slabs and S90V. I'd rather have G10, but it's not out of line really, though I don't believe the standard 940 is worth anywhere near $210. The Manix 2XL went up about the same to get S90V and CF, but lots of people complained about the $220 price tag on that one and it's a lot bigger knife than the 940.

I'm kind of bummed they aren't doing a 943-1in the same materials.

Anyone else?

I'm more than kind of hoping they do.
The 940-1 might be the only BM I buy in 2014.
A 943-1? I could not resist.

I'm excited for this one. I was considering trying out the 940 but couldn't get past the green and purple.
