CG BB13 Awesomeness!!!

I wonder if that is instead a chemical conversion coating? Those are designed to improve the adhesion of a paint/coating on metal surfaces.

Guy, it could very well be. It was a lot more difficult to remove on the last couple I've stripped, and as CHEMMINS shows above, much more even than the old "decarb". However, it does seem to develop surface rust rather easily, so I don't know.

My Gremlin marks are actually "Chopping enhancement Marks" ....at least that's what the Unicorn told me.

I'm going to leave it for a few days and see how the rust progression is. Mind you being in -30 right now air is pretty dry. Lol.

I might have slept in a Holiday Inn, and the only hardness tester that I know of uses a small conical mandril to make a tiny dimple on the surface.

I've run across two blades that have the round hardness testing dimples. The first one, they were right on the logo and it bothered me so I sold it but then I got to thinking "Hey, that blade was actually tested so it's hardness was actually proven.". When I saw them on the second blade, those marks made it a keeper for me.

Now that's what a hardness testing mark looks like!!! Made by the point of a conical diamond. ;)

Oops. Missed your post. :o

It's pretty dry most of the time here in Colorado where I live (humidity usually 20-30% at most, unless it's raining or snowing), and my BT6 (I think it was) was showing rust overnight while sitting in my de-humidified safe. No oil, mind you, just scrubbed down in hot water with dish soap, and thoroughly dried off before storing overnight. Curious to see what your results are.

That's really interesting. I can't recall many folk ever reporting such marks.

So after a few days sitting in tactical cardboard sheath...I pull it out and there is an ever so faint hue of rust. Mind you I didn't oil it either. It was just washed with dawn and wiped quick with a paper towel. So it was prolly still damp. Not bad. I think I'll sand it though and keep er lubed. I wouldn't be worried about the carb/precoat if I lubed and stored it as is.

Missed this earlier. Mirrors my experience fairly closely. Good data point, thanks for the info!

Two birds with one stone...

Very nice!!! This pair of Busses could easily serve a person VERY well for life, and you'd be OK without ever buying another knife again... :foot: ;)

It's disappointing that the photos are broke. I can't see any of them except for the past one posted..... Do I need to install a plugin or something? I'd like to see the pics from earlier in the thread.

The broken pics are due to :poop: Photobucket :poop: deciding to hold everyone's pics hostage for a $400 ransom to enable 3rd party hosting. Shockingly, most people appear to have balked at this...
