CG BB13 Awesomeness!!!

Honestly, I dig my Grinder Gremlin marks....one of them looks just like a Z so.....fits me well...besides...it'll get the crap beat out of it anyways.

The marks don't mean that the flats weren't surface ground, just that the grinding wasn't deep enough to remove all of them (those tracks are more pronounced that regular surface dimples).

Yeah, could be.

I used a paint stripper. Dissolv is the brand but I've used citri strip and klean strip before.

Absolutely agreed. However, assuming that what Jerry said is true, then 0.015" was ground off of each side of the blade to get from 0.25" to 0.22" thick. If those grinder gremlin marks are like any I've seen personally, they should be gone (or very nearly completely) if 0.015" of material was removed from each side during surface grinding.

That's why, after seeing how the marks looked on the stripped blade shown in this thread, I theorized that they were done after the surface grinding process.

ETA - That, or these marks were a lot deeper than the typical ones we see.

Likewise, but can't imagine anything much deeper than 0.020". That's pretty significant.

Looking at the various photos of the CG BB13, there does not appear to be any markings that indicate it is CG or Infi. One question; if both Combat and Battle Grades have powder coating, how does one tell if a BB13 is CG or BG? Is there some sort of mark or testing dimple or other way to distinguish between the two grades?

Thanks

Battle Grade has black Res-C handles.

Combat Grade has tan Res-C handles.

Battle Grades are also laser marked as such.

Combat Grades are laser marked "BUSSE".

Now that it's stripped.....I kinda think I might keep the decarb. It turned out pretty good. What you all think? It's a user anyway so eventually it will come off.

Those minute 'hash marks', could they have been the result of accidently dropping the knife? Either way, I seriously doubt the marks make any difference in performance.

Supposedly it can. This is the smoothest decarb I have ever seen. It is very uniform. Almost like a precoating.

Doesnt decarb turn in to rust really quick?

That's what all the recent "decarb" I've seen looks like, and it does develop surface rust quite easily. I would recommend removing it.

Are you talking about the "grinder gremlin" marks? If so, no, they're definitely not from dropping a knife.

If that's not what you mean, what are you talking about?

I believe those are in fact hardness testing marks on the blade...

I don't think you have a clue what you're talking about.

I wonder if that is instead a chemical conversion coating? Those are designed to improve the adhesion of a paint/coating on metal surfaces.
