Review CH Knives CH 3504, WOW!

Nice knife. I've been tempted to check out a couple different CH models, but I'm not willing to purchase from the sites I find them available on. Maybe, once CH becomes more mainstream, they'll be available at the knife dealers I'm used to shopping with. :)

I can understand how people might be timid to try dhgate or other sites, but ebay is a pile of questionable goods too. Amazon is not much better now. From a viewpoint outside of the USA, there isn't any difference for me. I have been ripped off by companies in the USA and lost packages in the mail just as much from the USA as anywhere else.

Some of the pieces of that knife are very reminiscent of how WE manufactures their knives, like the clip, lockbar insert/over-travel stop, and backspacer. Does CH manufacture their own knives or have them done by someone else?

I am against outright ripping off other designs, making counterfeits and the like, but copying some design elements is how almost everything is done, cars, planes, computer cases, knives, nothing is completely new and free copying something.

Not trying to insinuate design elements being nicked or anything like that. Just would make sense to me if CH had their design manufactured by WE. I could see them specifying the overall knife design, then just leaving it to the manufacturer to add a generic clip, etc. which as I said looks a lot like what WE uses in knives they make. For instance, the ramp on the clip is almost identical to the one on my WE 615 and the lockbar insert is similar to those I've seen on all the WE knives I have.

I think I might also get a CH3504 mini, but I would be happier if it had a better steel. AUS8 is not horrible but it would be better for a longer lasting edge when you have a shorter edge to use in the first place.

The reason we are seeing these (incredible) prices, it that you're dealing direct with the manufacturer, or a middleman (retailer) who is taking a VERY small markup. I've had really good results with dhgate, aliexpress and gearbest. A very similar situation is going on with flashlights. Great quality, at 1/2 or even 1/3 of US prices, if you don't mind waiting : )

I'm getting ready to buy one too. Better steel will happen, maybe not on this model, but I think they saw how much people wanted the design without the skull, and they filled it.

It appears that the CH3504 is now available in the three skull designs, the handle finish I reviewed, and now with the same micro line finish as shown by Hackenslash in the mini version.

I would be concerned buying on these sites that take your VISA or MasterCard. Once they have your acct number and security code it could pose a serious problem for you. Just something to consider beside the knife.

All bigotry aside, you should be concerned using your credit card on any site.

You are absolutely right about concern using credit card period. Bigotry, no, you do not even know my nationality, I've travel internationally and always have to contact bank domestically to let them know about foreign travel. Only use my card when I can swipe it with chip reader, do not recite it on the telephone or fill in blanks for online ordering no matter location of seller.

I have Reate, We and several other high end foreign knives, but I always use PayPal, some of the sites mentioned do not have that option which would be my concern. Yes my charge card was compromised on Amazon and Home Depot in the US before chips were imbedded in charge cards, I only buy on line products with my PayPal account for added protection, my concern only reflected financial security concerns. This bigotry concern that you toss out so lightly I would get all facts before hitting your keyboard.

Please stick to talking about knives; stop making assumptions about people. There are many legitimate reasons people are reluctant to buy CH knives besides bigotry (speaking for myself, I really doubt they are spending the money to import the S35VN).

They cloned zeiba

Won't support that crap. It's not even zdp 189 like it's marked.
You're right, Mo, that certainly looks like a direct copy of a Zeiba Front Flipper. I think it's too early to declare them cloners though. This needs to be investigated further; remember the Tango! People were quick to proclaim Kizer was cloning too.

At this point, however, I won't be buying any more CH knives and won't recommend them to anyone else.

Consider my endorsement withdrawn until further notice.

We could shoot a knife with our Niton gun if anyone wants it checked to make sure it's legit. Send me an email at bob@nsm-ny.com and I'll give you shipping information. We'll cover the cost. We don't sell direct to CH but they could be buying from one of our distributors.

Please do this test on the LAPG TBFK knife as well.
Biggest knife mystery or recent time (S35VN knife for $35).

A bit off topic for this thread, but I meant a real test with their Niton gun, not a rope cut test that a properly heat treated 9Cr18MoV blade could pass with flying colors (and the Chinese have already learned how to properly heat treat that steel).
Although I must admit that I like Cedric and his channel.

Mo2 Mo2 - If you would like to answer - tag me in that thread you opened on the TBFK.

To be clear, we will test your knife if you want to package and send it to us. We won't go out and buy this knife. Send me an email at bob@nsm-ny.com and I'll give you our UPS account number and address details. Sorry, but for domestic shipments only.

After doing a re-profile of the edge, it certainly seems like the steel is S35VN. It took quite a bit of work over something like AUS8 to get the edge to my liking, it did not abrade away easily at all.
