I bought a Busse Air Rescue Knife from Chad here on the forums. The knife was sold as "new". Right after I purchased the knife from him I was able to buy 2 from the Busse Shop. Rather than contact him and cancel the deal I waited on the knife and was just going to sell it. The wait was a little long, but he said he was Active duty military and it would arrive in a few days. It came yesterday and when I removed it from the sheath, it has a 1 and 1'2 mm piece of coating gone from above one of the serrations nd either rust or dirt in there. I contacted Chad and told him the knife was not as described and that I wanted my money refunded and ask where to send the knife back to. He responded by questioning me and asking to see pictures of the damage. I provided pictures and repeated that I wanted a refund. His response was that there was no place that he could recieve the knife as he was moving around, but he has a verified account with paypal. He also said that he didn't see any damage and that he could not supply a refund because he had spend the $350 dollars that I sent him. I am in the process of filing a complaint with the credit card company as well as paypal. Is there anything else I can do? I thought that an inspection period is at least courtesy if not mandatory. Either way, i have a knife that I can't sell, don't want and I am out $350 bucks! Bad show for a forum member and from a soldier. I could not be more disappointed.

Here is the original pic that I sent and he said he could not see the problem.

Here is the last one I sent after a request for a larger photo. I don't usually go to this much trouble to SELL a knife, I don't feel that I should have to do all of this to get my money back on one. Is it huge? No, as stated around 1mm to 1 and a half, but that is too much on a knife sold as new and at that price.

I have bought knives that where to various degress weren't or at least not what I expected.

It's unfortunate that he can't/doesn't want to give your money back. The three day approval period needs to be agreed on upon probably ahead of time so all parties are clear.

It sounds like you are taking steps with the CC company and etc.,but I will say, you can still sell the knife just not probably for as much as you hoped/put into it.

Since he has stated that he is not willing to give me my money back, I will have to sell it but probably at a big loss. I have done lots of buying and selling and this is my first bad deal, but it do sting a little

Is it possible to send it back to Busse, and have it refinished?

It may cost you a few dollars, but I think it would be less than the loss you'd suffer trying to sell it as is.

The inspection period (if any) needs to be agreed on during your negotiations. I think most members ASSUME there is an inspection period built into the rules, and that is not the case. My suggestion is that each member needs to jot down what they think are reasonable terms for trades, sales, ect, and use that list each time you negotiate a deal. That way you don't forget anything in the excitement, and you have all your bases covered if and when you discover a problem.

Good luck.

I have no doubt that it can be fixed by the company. It's just bugs me that I would have to do it. As far as the agreed on period, I guess that holds true to the old assume saying. I have learned a couple of VERY expensive lessons lately:rolleyes: Maybe this will be it for a while.:)

I'm not giving up on bladeforums buy, selling, swapping etc. I just meant that I hope that is the last of the pricy lessons.:D

No, you don't need to get a seller to agree in advance to obey the law. Some people posting in this thread seem to be very confused.

Naturally I want to give the seller a chance to respond before banning him, and I still hope he'll make good.

We know Ranger, and can verify that he is a good guy. He is moving around a bit right now and I wouldn't be too concerned at this point. Send that puppy in and we will take care of the problem at no charge.

Jerry

Jerry your the man!!!!Ranger may be AOK but you NEVER spend money or use a knife until both parties are happy!!! This situation is just not exceptable and needs to be made an example of. If Jerry wasn't the man that he is alphamaniv would have no restitution and without Rangers acknowlegement Ranger and others may think this is ok to do with other members! This is NOT ok.

I appreciate Jerry stepping up to help take care of the situation.

However I agree that one should NEVER spend funds from something sold until all parties agree the deal is good. That probably SHOULD be a rule on the buy/sell/trading forums, as it seem non controversial.

Maybe my eyesight isn't all that good anymore, but I can't really see what's wrong with the knife. Sure, I can tell there's a slight change in the texture in one tiny spot, but the pictures don't seem very clear. Further, given the normal variations in the coating, I'm just not convinced. Busses are built for performance but they aren't always perfectly flawless in the fit and finish department. I had a Busse arrive direct from the factory with some variations and unevenness in the coating, and I didn't let it bother me at all.

It's unfortunate that the seller wouldn't honor the buyer's request for a refund, but if he's overseas and active duty military I can understand why he might not be terribly enthusiastic to make sure alphamaniv is just the happiest little knife collector this side of the ocean.

Guys, tell me if I'm off base here, but somehow I feel like alphamaniv is overreacting.

Look, if you had canceled the deal just because you found another place to buy the knife, then you would have been the "BAD" in GB&U - don't act like you're some saint for actually following through with the deal, and don't let your buyer's remorse affect your judgment on this matter.

Alphamaniv, to me "like new" means that you should be able to set that knife next to a new knife and have a hard time seeing the difference. This knife is obviously NOT "like new". Ranger should have been upfront about this defect. I think most people would have adjusted the price accordingly or givin your money back. That's really nice of Jerry to fix your knife for you and cudos to him for that. Ranger might be a nice guy but if he wants to keep any reputation around here then he should make right. Just MHO. Best of Luck!

I too thank Jerry for his offer, and if Ranger288 refuses to make good on the deal, then I will take him upon it. To me, the issue is that I am not happy with the knife, and he has flat out refused to give me a refund. That's not right. Active duty or not, if you have time to sell it and take the money, you can make it right. The response from Jerry is one reason that I buy Busse knives and will continue to do so. He is a stand up guy all the way around, but my issue is not with him or his company. It is with Chad and him sending me something that was not like he said it was.

I am sorry to hear of this. I bought a "used" Paul's Hatchet CG from him and it showed up in a matter of days. Upon inspection, I can't see where it has ever been used at all. AlphamanIV, I am sure that there is no fraud intended. I can barely make out a color difference in the coating right above the first forward serration. Is it rust from misuse or could it be from a leather sheath that may have trapped some moisture against the edge while in transport?

Jerry is the man by the way! Who else is going to step up like that when he doesn't have to.

A deal is not a deal until both parties are happy.

Nuff said.................

I know that some of the problem lies in the picture, but I am not super good at getting the focus right on the closeup shots. It is not caused by the sheath, there is a chunk of coating missing. You can feel it very well. Chad claimed in one of the last emails I recieved from him that "if" something was wrong with it, he did not notice it, but at the same time he still refuses to make good on a refund. What he failed to notice or failed to tell is not my responsibility. Whether it was on purpose or on accident, the knife I recieved is not as described and I want my money back. It should be simple. He keeps telling me to just sell it, and claims to not have the money to send back. He is still selling knives here on the forums. Since he is in the military, I know he is getting a paycheck, so what gives? I do not doubt that he has sold many fine knives and completed deals where everyone was happy. So have I. That is not the case here and he seems to be unwilling to do anything about it, except to spend MY money and tell me "good luck". I work hard for my money. My integrity has been called into question, by his "needing to see pictures" then he knocks the pictures, and requests better(larger) ones. Which I have provided. The picture that he used to sell the knife didn't show the side in question at all. After several requests for a refund, and his refusals, I informed him that I would go to paypal and bladeforums, and where ever else I could to have this worked out. Then he tells me that "I am a man of my word" and "I do not like threats". There is a differece in threatening a person and informing them of your intended course of action. I'm sure he will eventually respond here, but I bet that no matter what is said, or how many good deals he has done in the past, or how good a guy he really is, I won't get my money back.
Now all of this aside about yes I see it, no I don't, it sure is small or whatever, no one that has defended the person or the knife has been willing to put their money where their mouth is.(except Jerry and he is really not even involved, just a good guy) I bought the knife, it didn't meet MY expectations and was not IN MY OPINION, what I thought I was getting. I contacted him the very day I recieved it, and have been denied my money back. Cut and dried, plain and simple.
