Charlow Barlow History

God bless you Primble! I too have been snowed in since Monday and I have not spent the time as well as you have. Mostly honey do here!:cold::cold::cold:

^ What a beautiful bone coloring.

I'm really happy, and lucky, to have gotten a single sheepfoot in smooth ivory bone. I got it straight from a dealer and didn't buy it till some time around September.

the first color that was called Antique Yellow and a PPP:

Primble, I don't know if you are a pro photographer as well as a knife-collector/barlow-guru, but this photo is the best I've ever seen of any knife. Ever.

Gosh dang it Primble! Those photos are freaking fantastic! I can see they were shot outdoors, so...without the benefit of a light box or other gadgets. Thanks for the entertainment:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:...3 thumbs up sir!

Does anyone now the order of appearance (earliest to latest) in terms of the types of Ebony black wood handles/scales on the TCs? I know there were three types Blackwood, Ebony and Macassar. I believe the Macassar was first to appear followed by the Ebony and then the Blackwood-- but I could be wrong on this. I also wanted to bump this great compendium documenting the TC variations compiled by Jon Slider into 2015. Outstanding reference source for those wanting to understand the TC production models and evolution of this modern Barlow phonomenum first produced in late 2012 and still being produced and highly sought after! Thanks Jon & Charlie

Found you an answer for this question and the answer came from our old friend Jon Slider. ;):)

First run (spears only) was Macassar Ebony (striped) Dec 2012
Second run (clip blades, plus some spears) was Gabon Ebony (black) the wood was sourced by Charlie, at first, later GEC provided more of their own. Feb to April 2013
Third run used African Blackwood (Sheepfoot blades), June 2013
the first 3 runs all had long pulls on the primary blades, then a series of crescent nick blades was produced.
a later run of crescent nick spears used Gabon Ebony sourced by GEC.

Great job on the TC history Primble!:thumbup:

More snow coming next week! Looking forward to your next "Snowed-In" project! :D

Thanks Primble! Just what I was looking for. I am glad you were snowed in (grin)--that Is some quick work by you and just goes so well in this thread. The pictures with the release dates is fantastic and then the follow up with the dates, models and production totals is just frosting on the cake. Thanks again for all the work. I know I could NOT do that in a week. This thread is just pure bliss to a TC collector at least is to me.

Primble, Phil and Brad the pictures are just plain top notch. Phil, the picture of the trifecta of Brazilain Rosewood TC anniversary blade types is superb and a real prize to find them all--well done! I have a Brazilian Rosewood in the clip blade and feel very lucky to have that one.

Thanks Gentlemen

Great work, Primble! Nice contributions by Jon, Dave and anyone who I have missed!
I am nearly incapable of such clerical feats, and have to admire someone who can do such things.
There is one knife missing from the lot. To celebrate the success of these Barlows, Bill assembled one in 2013 I believe, a Spear with pen behind the main, with Elephant Ivory handles as a gift to me. It is of course my most treasured "Charlow" (there, I said it!*)!:o
:D

*I was always a little embarrassed by the term "Charlow", but one person cannot hold back the evolution of our wonderful language!

Good on you Primble mate, Dave Knowtracks and Jon really have done some great work, and Thank you for stepping in here and keeping this going!

Charlie - that Ivory is a real special one thats for sure, I think I remember seeing you post it ( if my memory is correct :o)

Some of the wooden editions:

the first color that was called Antique Yellow and a PPP:

Oh man Primble, that's niceness overload! Excellent knives, excellent photo skills, overdosing here on all your beautiful barlows!!

It would be nice to see a scan of the one and only ivory TC Barlow posted here. I did remember it, after you mentioned it.

I believe it was discussed about the time you showed your roll of TC's.

If you care to provide the tang number, I will add it to it's most deserving spot on the list. :)

Thank you for the comments everyone. I think I might get some mail today (if the post lady does not freeze on the way) that might put me on a different track, if you will. :D

Great compendium on the Charlow production numbers, Primble! I never knew there were so many of the red Soup Bone Anniversary models made (or so few of the Brazilian Rosewood).
