Charlow Barlow History

Oh sorry Willy I misread that. The fifth two blade clip/pen had a nick I think, in saddle brown saw cut bone.

I just went through these eight pages and I am now totally overwhelmed. I love the pics and the history. Does anyone have a list of numbers and with handles and blade markings etc that one might be able to use as a quick reference??

Sure Bobby, what do you want to know? All of it? You can see all the variations on the "What makes a Good Traditional Barlow?" thread if you want ALL the numbers
shoot me a PM.

The red soup bone scales are a wonderful homage to the to '70s era Case XX red bone barlows.

Anniversary etch, designed by Barry Johnson aka GunStockJack, adds the perfect finishing touch to this beautiful knife!

This is my personal favorite Charlow thus far!!

Well done Charlie, Barry, the GEC staff, and whoever else was involved in this timeless work of art!

Does anyone now the order of appearance (earliest to latest) in terms of the types of Ebony black wood handles/scales on the TCs? I know there were three types Blackwood, Ebony and Macassar. I believe the Macassar was first to appear followed by the Ebony and then the Blackwood-- but I could be wrong on this. I also wanted to bump this great compendium documenting the TC variations compiled by Jon Slider into 2015. Outstanding reference source for those wanting to understand the TC production models and evolution of this modern Barlow phonomenum first produced in late 2012 and still being produced and highly sought after! Thanks Jon & Charlie

Great question Luger:thumbup: also was there an regular Ebony? and Gabon Ebony, there's a difference right?:o

It would be neat and deserving at the end of the TC Barlow run (blaphemy I know) that a color illustrated book be published...the knife is certainly worthy of it:thumbup:

Knowtracks did a nice job of documenting the order of appearances for the TC Barlows, located in the What-Makes-a-Good-Traditional-Barlow, beginning on page 275 below and continuing for the next 20 pages or so. :

Can someone fill me in on the significance/meaning of the etch on the pile side of the blade, which is a circle with 3P inside? I can't seem to find it. It's a cool logo.

Premier Production Pattern I believe

PPP is "Pattern Production Premier" - ya almost had it, Brett! :D;)

A little more Charlow history - here is the full set of anniversary barlows:

A little background on the rosewood covers:

A good cabinet maker friend was slicing up some Brazilian Rosewood, and I begged a couple of pieces from him. I hope it shows nicely; it has a rainbow of Color in it!!
I wish I had more, but it is hard to find even some scraps!

There were 11 done in Clip, 6 in Spear, 7 in Sheepfoot. Total 24 Brazilians. Bill used up some blades from previous runs to make these for me.

They are quite a few missing and it is not up to date. This is all that I found on the GEC site. Maybe they will update the complete set at a later date.
Notably missing are the Days Work releases, the Stews Blades, Rosewoods, Anniversary, and more. :o

I believe that all of the spears with nail nicks, released in March of 2014, were also released near or at the same time in the two bladed configuration.

Primble, as someone who is snowed in as well....I can say that you are more productive with your time than I. :D

2013 was a great year and that Antique Amber is on my wish list. Looking at it though, makes me wish there was an appaloosa saw cut as well.

Primble, nice pictorial of the TC's. I think you just kicked me down the "collector" slope! I see several I would like to own someday.
