Chat Subforum for the Busse Forum?

Do you like the idea of a chat sub-forum?

I personally don't hang around for the "whatcha drinking", "Go *insert football team*", or "I've got hemmoroids" threads. They're totally lame if you ask me.

This is the one forum where I actually do searches to find old, so-called "off-topic" material. About people, certain events, certain standing jokes, etc. If the nature of the forum changed, I doubt I would hang around as much. That might be a good thing though.

I voted no. As someone else said, the feel and "personality" of the forum would be ruined if everything was split up. I can't imagine a Busse subforum where you could only post about knives, even if there were a separate chat subforum.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go start a hemorrhoid thread as I don't recall having seen one here before.

It doesn't bother me when a knife thread breaks into a bourban discussion, and I don't even drink that fire-water. There is enough nanny-statism in the world without forcing the Busse mods to interject in the middle of a thread and remind people to, "Stay on topic guys or I'm going to have to move this thread to the chat forum".

Yuck.

Well put. Listen to this guy, even if he did have a funny signature at one point.

Dang Tyrkon, don't you ever sleep? :p

Still jacked up on coffee and high-pitched screams? :D

well I like it the way it is, I like the way mid discussion we get some crazzeee pics and some even funnier conversations between these guys/gals, then back on topic.

threads that actually start off topic, maybe they should have their own place.

I'm all for keeping BF the same, but to help it in the long run I'd consider change providing it doesn't ruin the way the sub-forum works of course

If it changes, my family will be happy to see me on the computer less.
I do see how it would make things better for Spark and Bladeforums, but I hope that he is willing to work with us in another fashion. I will continue to pay my meager membership fee (even if the price goes up) to keep coming to a place I enjoy hanging out online, but I like it the way it is. A little ecclectic, like many of the members.

I like it how it is, but could see the advantage of taking strain off. . .

BUT. . .

How much more time are the mods gonna have to put in to keep knife discussions on-point vs. taking it to the chat forum? I would think this could turn into a moderating nightmare.

I voted against an additional forum, but I suppose it would be fine to have a chat forum. I would use it if it were there. My only hesitation would be that it would suck if the mods had to start handing out infractions for "chatting" in the main Busse Forum. That would definitely cramp the style of the community as it stands. There are enough rules in this world already, enough doublethinking that has to be done before you can say anything anywhere. In the Busse forum, it would almost make more sense to have a separate "knife only" section, since the majority of threads tend to start out loosely based on the knives themselves, and then veer off and back on topic.

Although, it would be funny to see Skunk get a warning if he doesn't post pics when he drops his cryptic hints. Would hints from Jerry, Amy and Skunk be banished to the chat subforum, since they don't literally, specifically relate to the knives themselves?

Hate the idea of a subforum :thumbdn:. . . Nah gonna do it. . . nah gonna do. . . .

Things are cool the way they are. . . Dividing the forum would be like taking the Blue out of the Johnny Walker, the spice out of the spice cake, the V out of the 8. . .

Nuke on!

Jerry :D

.

Ehh.
I say just keep it the way it is. If anything the mods should ease up a bit on what is considered acceptable or not..

Amen, although I am empathetic to the one who doesn't want to hear about our loved ones :thumbdn: :barf: Keep it the same, I think we can weed through what we want to read as adults  Just my .02 worth, now let's talk JWB and Knives :D

I think the "chat" makes this forum what it is. The knife info comes with a lot of humanity...makes it more real to me. Just a lady's point of view, but I say leave it as is.

A girl needs a knife...

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go start a hemorrhoid thread as I don't recall having seen one here before.

hmmm.... I might be able to scan in some pictures of mine from my recent colonoscopy. :D

Echoing some others - no thank you to a sub-forum.

I enjoy things just as they are - it's a fun place to be.

It's Spark's place though, and I understand how it effects his storage and organization. It's his call at the end of the day.

But my vote - no no no!

While I sympathize with Spark's dilemma and the issue of storage, this forum is perfect just the way it is. I agree with all those who say that splitting things would detract from the forum experience we all have come to love. I also agree that doing so would be an exercise in driving mods nuts with having to enforce "staying on topic".

Spark, if you put that custom up for sale Jerry gave you, you might be able to buy a new server (exaggeration of course) to handle just the Busse forum. :D I don't know how you could cull the chatter that really isn't worth keeping. Like was said before, you never know when someone new will need to reference and old inside joke or a new one for that matter. It would just be too hard to seperate things and still keep this forum the same.

A chat sub-forum would kill the unique spirit of this forum and that would pretty much be the end of my visits here.

The only reason I come here so much is because the off topic posts make for some fun times between the knife related chats having to do with steels, sharpening and the like. If you don’t like the off topic threads then just don’t look at them. If you have to go to page two or three to find threads about knives then you are just a click or two away. The complaint about off topic threads reminds me of the laziness that got us the separate Busse sale forum.

So while I sympathize with the storage issues I do think maintaining the unique nature of this Busse forum is far more important.

Thanks, but please keep it the way it is now.

I am happy with whatever you guys want to do. I do like it how it is now, it gives it a nice home feeling being in here.
