It's real easy to skip the threads that has a subject you don't care for.
As a direct result of this forums off topic freedom I got some cool christmas presents also:thumbup:
Guyon alone has lead me to finding out about(and buying) several great products I would otherwise be without
I've learned so much from this forum(other than knives) that it would be to much to list. Heck, I didn't even know or care how to post a pic untill I got here, etc, etc..
Split would suck bigtime IMO:thumbdn:, and no one would want to be going back and forth

Ken, Cobalt knows that the bouncing/T&A stuff doesn't fly here. Mike and I have edited it out of numerous threads because it is inappropriate; we know he is just keeping us on our toes. I missed that last one and appreciate you moving it though. I would have taken care of it if I had been on line. Other than the occasional post like that one, this forum runs just fine. We take care of anything Jerry deems inappropriate in association with his name.

Russ which way are you leaning? Seems like you don't like the idea of splitting the forum by saying no to chat, but then it looks like you are also opposed to the way it is run. Can you clear it up? Just curious.

I am not sure what the heck is going on.....I like it the way it is.....BUT for all of you that do not see this as "Knife Discussion" well I have something to say...
I work at Busse and I look at the forums after the office is closed, or in Business hours well heck I always check the Busse Combat blade forums before I get up in the morning...I check because if I can answer a question I will or when I get to work I will...Yes I tend to get Off Topic ....but heck it is all Busse related....the way I think of it "WE ARE FAMILY"

We don't do selling on the home forum because it would be like taking a table next to Jerry at Blade (or any show, just used Blade as a common illustration) and then selling Busse knives, or more like standing in front of his booth with a duffle bag of knives for sale would probably be more like it.I like the the one stop shop.

Here's my take.
I think that splitting the forum into a pair is not a good idea. It would really hurt the atmosphere around here. If the Boss don't like it then I don't like it.
In my opinion if it absolutely has to be done I say make the knife forum a straight blade discussion and allow both in the OT lounge, (Hog's Breath Saloon has a nice ring to it). That way those of us that only hang out at one can survive in the saloon, and the new guys that don't feel like a part of the family yet can discuss sharpness and the like in the knife section. As long as someone drops in on the newbs once in a while to answer their questions it would be fine.
My vote is for one board, but if it has to be split then we should be allowed to discuss knives in the off topic area.

Just for clarification, I was not suggesting that chatting or going off-topic in a thread become illegal and infractions be issued. I don't mind threads going off-topic, I just think that threads that have nothing to do with knives should be in their own sub-forum. A discussion goes where it goes, no problem, but if a thread was never intended to be about knives at all and only appeals to a few guys chumming it up, then it's just clogging up the main page and turning people away from what they actually want to read about: the knives.
People that want to chat it up are still only one click away, the same guys that love it so much would be silly not to click one more link to continue, and it would make it easier on Spark, the bandwidth, and all the newcomers just wanting some info.
I don't want the forum to become up tight and lose it's attitude, just become a little cleaner and easier to navigate.

I weighed in early on this one and voted for the subforum, and now that I've seen both sides I'm finding myself agreeing with everyone.
I do like the banter and friendliness everyone shares here. My only real pet peeve is I don't relate to people who want to post their personal problems here. I guess I do appreciate when someone puts "OT" in the thread name so that I can just avoid it. But why not post those where they're on topic (it's a rhetorical question; don't need an explanation). I think this wouldn't even come up, and Spark et al wouldn't even consider it if so many OT threads weren't popping up. Maybe we could just reign it in with the kidney stone/hernia/hemorrhoids threads?
