Pre - party drinking until it's beer thirty! Got the wife started too!
Got more gun tools on loan today, gonna try and get my barrel mounted up soon. Facing and truing the receiver should help accuracy. I'm hoping to get under 0.5 moa (@ 200 yards) out of this gun, going over all the tricks I already know from my bolt guns and searching out the tricks for these Lego guns. Bobby, how's that little pop gun shoot? I'm already planning a .223 Wylde upper that will clone this 6.8 build. 24" stainless bull barrel (0.936" gas journal), LMT enhanced bolt, big scope, etc...
^ Sounds great! What kind of headphones? I need some decent ones eventually. Always great on the knives and socks! I'm on sockforum.com, I support custom socks.
I understand MOA but have only shot .22's for target shooting and that was at 50 feet long ago. Sounds good to me! I'm excited about the build Xander. I still want that 1858, it will do 3 shots all in the same wall at 20 feet!
I'm all over the place today... mail, winter prep and in the shop! If I'm lucky I will have some waterjet cut blanks for clips, etc in later today!
I found a set of Grado RS1i, for a not ridiculous price. I'm gradually selling off all my mid-range kit (extensive), and upgrading to just a few high-end pairs. This will provide a bit of a contrast in sound to the more sedate (and accurate) gear I use for mixing/mastering, and listening to classical. These will be my Jazz/Punk/Rock headphones, where I don't mind that they color the sound a little (adds to the experience).
I think I can do .5 MOA at 200 yards (1" @200yds) with this build. I just finished truing the receiver face this morning (known as "blue printing" with bolt action rifle receivers) and it was pretty close but about a little less than a mil out of true. I hand lapped the barrel, gotta scope it and may lapp it some more, rechambered it and gave it a tight headspace, went with a balanced bolt. It's a heavy bull barrel too, so it will be nice and stiff. I am going to bed the barrel extension as well. There will be no pressure points on the barrel either. I took quite a few tips from Robert Whitley (6mmAR.com) on accusing a MSR, that guy knows his stuff!
Liam, nice cans! I really considered turning some custom cups for a set but never got around to picking up any tone woods.
I'm still waiting on my membership to the range to take this out. It's a shame!
I replaced the commercial tube and stock with a BCM milspec tube and Magpul stock. Also a nice magpul grip. I'm debating replacing the trigger or BCG next. I kinda wanna throw more money at D :O
The general consensus for spending order is: Barrel, Bolt, trigger, optics - in that order. I got lucky with the milspec trigger in mine, it's nice and crisp just a little heavy, so a $5 Wolff spring will help that. I made the decision to build one rifle, how I wanted, however long it took. It's getting expensive though, lol! Closing in on $1700 using optics I already have... (ssshhhhh, don't tell my wife that)
Have a coffee day! Kid back in preschool.. other one still screaming! yay Looking forward to more photo teasers by our friend, Daniel Make something positive happen today guys... later!
Coffee it is! Then, I'm installing the barrel on my rifle! But first I need to turn down an alignment guage for the gas system to be sure that everything is where it needs to be.
I like to stand on top of a tall building and spit down on the people below... nah, jk.. but it does sound like a way to pass the day.. that or spit wads on a movie screen.... sorry, pre-teen relapse memory purging..
