Afternoon fellas.
Had an aggravating oh sh!t moment in the shop this morning when installing my barrel. Get my bench cleared, parts, tools, lubes, guages, etc all laid out. Mount my receiver in the vise blocks, test fit everything and the bed the barrel with loctite. Get my handguard parts and barrel nut prepped, threads lubed, parts assembled and slip them over the barrel and get to the gas block journal and it stops. The nut doesn't fit over the barrel!
Grab the calipers, measure the barrel 1.005", then the nut 1.000". Crap. Jump online, get the phone number and call the dealer I bought the barrel from, them: "ok, why would a milspec barrel nut fit over a bull barrel, there's nothing milspec about it." So that was no help. Call my gunsmith, he tells me to bring it in, he decides that cutting the flange on the minor inside diameter of the nut is ok and he'll do it. 10 minutes later he has it done and I am very relieved! Never occurred to me that a milspec barrel nut won't fit over a barrel designed to go in a milspec receiver.
Just glad I didn't have to pull the barrel and try to clean the bedding off or have to buy another barrel nut and handguard.
So, now I'm here at work just trying to make it a decent day. Lots to do, but that's ok, I'm off tomorrow
Cheers!
