That looks great, well done!If anybody had the curiosity to know how a PF Flavorist looked acid etched, then this post is for you.
Yesterday after cutting a Lime on a picnic, I forgot to clean the blade completely, so it ended acid etching by mistake... It left a permanent yellowish stain on it...
So today I woke up wanting to fix it, so I started sanding down the blade (just a bit) and acid etching it using some ferric chloride at 40 percent. Few seconds were enough to show up some nice patterns on the blade. After putting the blade on some sodium bicarbonate dilution, I "sanded" it using some 5000 grit sandpaper, just to remove a bit of that rough layer.
I like a lot how it looks, as it matches the liner lock's and PF logos color scheme. Also it shows nice patterns and contrasts when the light bounces on it.![]()

Well boys, I'm in the club #172!! I do like a good, top tier blade but I also LOVE a bargain! For proof...I held out on buying a $30 Schrade folder that I liked for the harpoon blade profile, until it just went on sale for $18! Cheapskate Club for life!
I'll post some pics but you gotta wait til Saturday...just ordered it today, LOL! Prime is fast but it ain't that fast!Pics or it didn't happen!
Great cheapskate find, looks like a handy size to slip into a pocket! I'd be willing to bet it's made by Bear & Son but offerings on their website don't exactly look similar to what you have.A new cheapskate submission, went to the Bass Pro today and on impulse picked up this $14 lockback. I must admit I was intrigued by the American flag and "USA made" on the box. Aluminum handle, small and light, came hair popping sharp out of the box. The sharpness of the blade, shape of the blade (which looks similar to a Buck 55) and overall construction (reminds me of my Buck spitfire) makes me wonder if Buck made them?? Could be Bear & Son, or someone completely different. Seems nice though for under $15

Here are two 10-dollar knives:

The modern is a Harbor Freight “Gordon” brand ball-bearing flipper. I ordinarily would never have entertained the thought of buying one of the abominations that pass for knives at “Horror Fraught” (as as I saw someone refer to it in a product review), but I went there to get something else, and just HAD to look…
I was surprised at the heft of the thing, and at the fact it said it was 8Cr13MoV steel - which I have seen touted as adequate in various places on the internet. Their usual fare has 3Cr13 and looks like the lowest of low-end junk.
I suspect the OEM for this model is a company that also makes better knives. It feels solid, has a decent flipping action, and came extremely sharp. It still has a bit of a cheap feel to it somehow, the pivot and bearings seem like a possible weak spot, and of course it is nowhere near as cool as the Okapi. Still, I was expecting to hate myself for buying it, but so far I am pleased, actually…
I have several of those HF knives. I leave them around everywhere. They are not bad at all for what they are.I originally posted this on “The Porch”. Fitting, as the picture was taken on my actual porch…
