I believe American companies who make copies should get a pass. The problem is the Chinese who copy, and they should NOT get a pass
Okay, I’ll take the bait.

If it is truly is theft as some claim, then why would it be acceptable for US companies to steal?

He stated an opinion and you called him on it. Fine. Call as many people as you want. It is all opinions anyhow. You can’t prove he is wrong anymore than he or I can prove you incorrect.

As for American companies getting a pass, all you have to do is look at the evidence.

For one example off the top of my head, Kershaw’s Echelon is effectively a copy of Strider’s SJ-75. It was an in house design according to Kershaw. Everyone here gave it a pass.

Don’t bother to respond back. No matter how much I write, I won’t change your mind. You and I could banter back and forth for the next six months and our positions would be unchanged.
He stated something that is easy to verify as untrue. That makes him wrong. You agreed with him. That makes you wrong. You said that I know he is right. That makes you double wrong.

Lots of folks here have spoken up when an American company has copied. To say it doesn't happen and that everyone here looks the other way or gives them a pass is factually incorrect and easy to verify.

I'm so tired of arguing with people who deny basic facts. Good god this is idiotic...

Guys guys....as fate would have it...COVID19 may be on the path to correcting this cloning/counterfeiting problem. No need to get personal...

...wait...

COVID19 is a slightly changed version of SARS...dang, now Im confused. ;)

There are a lot worse things going on that are worth discussing...just a touch of perspective...

I have respect for you all, and partake in the same hobby (minus the clones).
Please please all, stay safe and healthy.

Ps: Boycott the clones and imposter blades!!

You're not wrong. I could do without harping on about clones and I'm getting Covid 19 talk fatuiged too.

Totally agree. I couldnt think of anything better to say with this virus talk being hammered into my head everywhere I turn.
Last thing I want to argue about is how wrong clones are.

I don’t have a problem if you cast stones at Ganzo. Please do.

My problem is when stones are cast at forum members. I have lost count how many times the character and morals of individual members come under attack in these type of threads

As for the OP... I personally don’t see how your opinion applies in this case.
I live by 2 rules.

If it quacks like a duck it's a duck, & give em' enough rope.

Jeez, give it a rest.

In one of my post I stated that you and I would not change each other’s mind. Later, in another post I told you don’t bother to respond to my comment.

Yet, you responded anyway. Can’t you take a hint?

Unf##ken believable!

Cloner Fan: Do you like Sandwiches?
BAMF: Sure do!
Cloner Fan: Do you make them at home?
BAMF: You bet!
Cloner Fan: Well then; you're worse than the Ganzo Knife Co if that's the case.
BAMF: Excuse me?!
Cloner Fan: Well did you invent the sandwich?
BAMF: No of course not. What kind of a question is that.
Cloner Fan: Well if you didn't invent the Sandwich then making your own is theft.
BAMF: No it isn't. Are you joking it's weeks till April 1.
Cloner Fan: You sir are a thief. You are stealing from the Sandwich Artists at Subway. Every bite is a dagger in their hearts.
BAMF:,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Cloner Fan #2: Do you like Sandwiches?

Lol!

If it's done in a "completely legal fashion", then there is no moral objection.

The balisong knife was never a patented design. Try again, if you must.

Edit: I shouldn't say that, it most likely was patented by someone, like 80 years ago, but the patent had expired long before Benchmade started making them.

That's just not true.

My point was that there is no "completely legal fashion" to steal IP. At least there shouldn't be.

I agree, there shouldn’t be.
Unfortunately, It appears that there is.

There is no legal protection for knife design beyond the possibility of a patent, which requires novelty to be granted. The Chinese cloners who sell stuff with their own branding are acting legally, and aren’t “stealing” IP any more than GEC is “stealing” its traditional patterns.

You give it a rest. Disputing basic facts is a non-starter in a serious discussion. Can't take anything you say seriously after that. Sorry.

Not true. IP is actually a big deal. The Chinese would be all on board if other countries started stealing their designs and making them cheaper in their own shady factories.

The OP only posted 3 times in this thread...all on the same day.

I think we all took the bait. :/

This video highlights some of the most notorious of fake knives. Made up through the early 1970s they have been known to fool advanced collectors, dealers and museums alike. They were originally made and sold as reproductions, but have since plagued the secondary marketplace as fake antiques.

...and they were not even Chinese.... (interesting and informative video)
