Chopper - WIP + a folder. UPDATE CHOPPER FINISHED!

Kinda funny how the knife and amp picture is an oxymoron. Good thread. I always enjoy the threads you make, it is an inspiration.

looking really nice! Keep the pics coming!

Thanks seionage.

got it sanded up to 400 today. Not much difference to see in the photos but I'll still post them when I get around to it. I'll probably leave it at 400# until after HT.

Now I have to decide what I want to do with the handle.

Man that is looking great. Nice work.

However...no matter where you are in the world, flip flops in the shop are a big no no. Ask my brother. He once lost a toe!

Here's the picture of 400# I've only done the blade faces to far. I need to go around and do the spine.

Apart from figuring out what timber i want to use for handle material there's not much more i can post on until i get it HT'd. For the handle i thought i'd keep it all Australian. With either jarrah or red gum and a light coloured eucalypt for a liner or visa versa.

Jarrah

A light coloured eucalyptus (not sure of the species)

Or some Murry River Red Gum which has a bit of ribbon/fiddle through it.

And to keep us amused until i get the big sucker HT'd I thought I could include this folder i started making today.

cool update tim. what are you using in the lanyard hole?

what kind of folder is this one?

The lanyard hole is an aluminium part of a draw mechanism I taxed from work.

The folder is going to be a liner lock with ti bolsters and timber scales if everything goes to plan.

Ran into a problem working on my folder this arvo. I drilled all my holes except for the stop pin and everything was lining up. So I went ahead and counter sunk the holes to take the head of the screws. No problems there. but when I went to put it all together to have a look and work out my stop pin my screws wouldn't go all the way in. the liners are too thin for the screws.:grumpy: the ramp of the countersunk head is hitting the stand-off before it tightens.

Man, you are putting my first knife to shame. Everyone would be laughing if I did a WIP on my first.
Your chopper is looking great.
