Choppers What do you USE???

I am seeing a trend here with the 1311, but I don't have one at the moment.

How does the Boom Parang compare to the DTBM? the Extra length or different weight make a noticeable difference?

Anyone try the Battle Saw? Seems like no one uses that one lol.

Of the blades you've shown/mentioned, I have an ASH1, D-Guard BM (same blade geometry as a Double Talon) and a Boom Parang. For me the Boom Parang wins it. I attribute it to the blade length and slim shoulder. I like my ASH1, but it doesn't have the length. The D-Guard would be better if I re-profiled it. BTW, all mine have factory edges.

The 1311 is a BEAST but I personally don't enjoy the feel/texture of Res-C. I wear gloves when I use it just for that reason. Apart from that personal opinion regarding Res-C, it is a phenomenal chopper and you can't go wrong.

Great info from everyone!!!

If I had all the extra coin I would definitely hop all over a killa zilla!!! Those things seem ideal to me!!!

I really like the BP but I have not used it yet, but have used similar choppers like it in the past with much happiness. I think the DTBM is moving down on my list even though it is so comfortable in my hand. I am anxious to some someone's results using the BS vs Parang vs others mention. I wish I could keep one of each!!!

I thought there would be more love for the ASH-2 than there has been. Its such a pretty blade!!!
The hard part is selling one before you have held the next one side by side with its potential replacement.

One sweet knife is the Argon Attack. I just don't need a pig sticker... Does anyone chop with it for fun?

Are you going To actually use it as a chopper? If so, that DTBM is gonna need some customizing before you use it much. Take a close look at inkynate's. At the rear talon. With the way it comes from BUSSE, that rear talon will eat your finger up quickly. I've tried it. Yes, it feels great in the hand just standing there fondling it. It swinging with it brings out its evil side.

My two favorites, Rat Mastiff and Rattlehawk, both well loved. :D

Which ever large knife I keep or trade/purchase for will be used as a chopper and still do other task with it as needed. I will most likely always have a small knife close by so it won't need to do really small task but I will make the most of it. I am leaning towards just using the BP and or getting a 1311 and have one or both as my choppers utility's then selling some of the others for a NMFSH and NMSFNO.

To me, the DTBM would do okay as a chopper but out of all of those it feels the best in the hand, but I could see what you mean by catching the evil side.

Use them all and decide which ones you like. Won't hurt your resell value much here and you will get the experience. As for knives you don't have, I would add my strong endorsement for the B11 and rest of the resC choppers. I also enjoy using a NMFBM for serious chopping. I have used a battle saw, and prefer the NMFBM.

Good to know about the BS vs NMFBM, any particular reasons??? I may forego both of them though for a 1311. Seems like it would be much cheaper and more effective too.

So what is stopping a battle saw or a boom parang from being as good as the b11??? All three are 11-11.5"... I will quickly acknowledge the smaller handle on the BS as a potential negative. Did you have a chance to try to notch anything with BS and if so was it effective?

Cannot speak to a boom parang. for me a resC handle is more comfortable to use, especially for extended use. BS works great for notching.

I'm really hoping a BS and an ASH2 show up in my bag. Ever since I saw the stripped BS, it has haunted me. I think Rob Stanley has a video of one doing some chopping on YouTube.

I haven't chopped with my Battle Saw but I did try out an ASHBM a couple years ago. The straight handles just aren't for me. Everyone is different though.

I also had an ASH1 for a while. Tried it out and just not for me. So, I passed on the ASH2.

I had a Basic 11 for a while too. It was a decent chopper but the 1111 performed better for me.

Game Warden makes for a nice chopper in the kitchen ;) :p

Starting at Chopweiler/Ratweiler/711/SARsqatch size everything up that I got my grabby paws on...

My ASHBM makes my 1111 jealous in the chopping department, but if I'm hiking with a chopper, I'd take my 1111 or Basic 10 any day with confidence.

Favorite Busse chopper I've had.
