Chris Reeve Knives History Timeline To Date & Blade Steel Timeline

That is Awesome Fooj........I have one just like it. It was a Grail that I looked for for a LONG Time. Finally found one years ago. The Mighty Jereboam I. This I STILL have. I had the Jereboam II and sold it. Kinda wish I had kept it, but I always like the spear point blades of the Shadow I, rather than the bowie of the Jereboam II. The Jereboam I has a shorter bowie point and its sweet.

Nice, Nyefmaker! Would love to see a photo! The jeroboam series sported 9" blades, while the Mark IV had a 7" blade. My impression was that after the first production runs of 40 Mark IVs and 40 Aviators, Chris went with curved hilts on the entire line up. If your JI has a straight hilt, that means that he continued that feature into the first runs of the 9" OPR as well.

Question

When did the Sebenza's start getting the date code on the inside of the handle slabs?

They began marking the inside of the sebenza scales in mid-1997. Anything prior to this would be unmarked. I have a large regular in BG-42 and its unmarked.
This thread also validates the information.

I have a small Regular marked A97. They must have started in early-1997.

Thank you for starting this thread. This much information in one place is really nice to have.

Your more than welcome........... I have had them marked and unmarked in 97, so just depends on when it was assembled.

Regular Sebenza Large: 1996 - 2008
Regular Sebenza Small: 1996 - 2008
Classic Sebenza Large and Small: 2000 - 2008
=======
Was both the regular and classic concurrently produced between the years 2000-2008?

Was the Classic MM model on produced in year 2000 only OR was all classic produced between 2000-2008 carries the MM markings to commemorate the turn of the millenium?

Yes, you are correct, they were made concurrently........God if I only Knew CRK was going to discontinue the Regular, I would have bought a heck of alot more of them at the time.......:)

I need to get my hands on a regular to see how it compares with the Classic or 21.

Some models leaked into the next year. This is quite common. Its not like CRK stops making something on the last day of the year. There are always parts left over and they use them up. A classic example of this is the hex caps used on the OPK.

Does anyone know what the first date for a Starbenza 25 was? I can't find it anywhere

Thanks Jon

Can someone tell me when Lisa started doing the graphics, and when Chris stopped?

Useful information and time scale for early Lock 45 & Helix knives. Copied from an old post by Anne Reeve from approximately 1999 from another forum

Chris has made neither a Lock 45 or a Helix Lock since about 1991 - the growth of Chris Reeve Knives (the Sebenza and the one piece fixed blades) leaves no time at all for Chris to devote to these designs. He has only made these knives as individual pieces, and has only made maybe 40 Helix and 20 Lock 45 of each - never any where near production.
I will do my best to explain the different locks:
Lock 45 - in much the same way as the integral lock of the Sebenza is part of the back of the knife, so the back handle of the Lock 45 becomes the lock. However, there is no slot in the handle, the entire back handle falls behind the open blade. It is very difficult to explain and I will try to get a photo scanned in to post.

The Helix Lock is a rather refined version of the locking mechanism used by Opinel. A ferrule is turned under the blade to lock it open. The name 'Helix' comes from the fact that the ferrule turns on a helix.

Chris will be at the Blade show and will have walking sticks there. He will have neither the Lock 45 or the Helix. Every once in a while, a Helix Lock does change hands with the dealers - prices depend entirely on what the knife is made up of. He has made them with stainless steel or damascus blades, and with handles of wood or titanium - sometimes inlaid with pearl or wood. If you were able to find one, I should think the price would be upwards of $750. I have not known of a Lock 45 change hands in 5 years - but they could have!

Anne

Just to reiterate this is a copied post from around 1999

I have had some down time and finally did an inventory. I thought the dates and steel section would make a good addition to this timeline.

Thanks very much for sharing. This is absolutely a welcome edition to the crk history timeline.

I don't think any of the originals were produced in BG-42, many of the first 200 numbered regulars were ATS-34 so the overlap went the other way.
