I had a similar experience. I purchased a bayonet with two sheaths. UPS handed me the box with over 4 inches of blade sticking out the side. Why anyone would pack a bayonet loose in a box and not bother to at least put it in one of the scabbards is beyond me.Sorry about your knife she was going to be a looker. Funny one time I had a Gingrich RD9 puncture the sheath(plastic lined cordura) ,packing and flat-rate box then be deposited in my mailbox with 1 1/2" of blade sticking out, dulled on the tip by transit. Lucky no one was hurt by that one.
Seller sent me a label and I am returning for a full refund. All is good, except I really wanted to keep this baby. As soon as I get refund I will post name of seller. Good guys.
There are no quality knife stores within 100 miles of me. I think the days of the quality knife storefront is gone forever. There was a time when I lived in California, that there was two knife stores that had quality knives to include CRK. I doubt those stores are still there.
You should learn more about bark river before assuming they'd never send out a product that isn't as advertised.I`m pretty sure that Bark River never send a broken knife to any of their customers. Most obviously it occurred between you and the seller. I never bought Large Bark River`s but the last big one I bought came in with a thick plastic tip protector and the kind of packaging you could directly drop off the plane for delivery. And if you didn't find the tip anywhere it occurred before packaging for sure.

I don't think that knife was intentionally made that way. What I do know is that the questionable morals of the guy who owns and runs it and knowing what I know about their history, I wouldn't put anything past bark river. Just my 2 cents, they may not have had anything to do with what happened here, like I said I just wouldn't put it past them.Like I said my experience with Bark River is limited. And I never ordered directly from them. But I don't think they would do that on purpose.

That's exactly what I don't trust. Someone saying "fuck it" and sending it anyway once the accident happened. I trust other manufacturers and realize mistakes happen. Bark river earned this mistrust in my eyes. But, I realize without knowing more how someone could give them the benefit of the doubt.I was meaning sending off a knife broken to their knowledge. Sending a imperfect one is one thing but a broken one... yishhh.

You'd be surprised what a rabid fanbase will do for a company, or maybe not. Anyway, I said my peace, if you care to know more there is a plethora of info right here on bladeforums.I`m not a big knife buyer, so it`s clear that my experience is ridiculous compared to many members here.
But I have a hard time thinking that it would be a sustainable business model as problems coming back to you would increase with sales, forcing you to invest in service / return instead of Quality Control, a lot simpler and more cost efficient.
But, i`m no business man. I would probably fail because of "conscience problems".
