Since 2 of the local FM stations in the St. Louis area have switched to 24/7 Christmas music. I am stuck on limited duty and I'm in the office 90% of my day tortured by Jingle Bells and Holly Jolly Christmas all day long. Some of the newer tunes are okay. I'm not a huge Kelly Clarkson or Mariah Carey fan, but it is a nice switch from Burl Ives and Nat King Cole. :D I thought I'd ask......

What is your favorite Christmas song?

IMHO listening to the same music (no matter what it is) over and over can get to you and they seem to do this in the work environment a lot. After a while knowing their whole catalog of music by heart.

For Christmas music I like the classics/old standards, some new and the funny tunes. The barking dogs tune should only be played once a year and the same for the grandma traffic accident with reindeer.

I'd go youtube crazy in this thread, but I'm limited at this time and waiting for Santa to bring more broadband. :D

Found some broadband. :D

"My baby went shoppin yesterday,
Said, "I'm gonna buy what you need for Santa Claus."
My baby went shoppin yesterday,
Said, "I'm gonna buy what you need for Santa Claus."
"I'm gonna take mine with me,"
"But I'll leave yours in my dresser drawer."
So, that started me to ramblin,
Lookin in all of my baby's dresser drawers.
Wow, that started me to ramblin,
Lookin all in my baby's dresser drawers.
Tryin to find out,
What did she bought me for Santa Claus.
When I pulled out the bottom dresser drawer,
The landlady got mad and called the law.
When I pulled out the bottom dresser drawer,
The landlady got mad and called the law.
I was just tryin to find,
What did she bought me for Santa Claus.
The police walked in and jarred me on the shoulder,
"What you doing with your hand in that woman's dresser drawer?"
I hand the police a letter my baby wrote me,
Showin where I should find my Santa Claus.
I just kept on pullin out all of my baby's dresser drawers.
I walked out and left the police and the landlady arguin,
Said, "Look at the man done pull out all the lady's dresser drawers."
Yes, I walked out and left the police and the landlady arguin,
Said, "Look at the man done pull out all the lady's dresser drawers."
But he said, "I got the letter and show the judge."
"The boy just tryin to find his Santa Claus."
Oh yeah."

I admit that the constant barrage of Xmas stuff in EVERY store gets more than a bit tiresome. For some reason, that tired old arrangement of "Sleigh Ride", with all the jingling bells....Drives me crazy.
I tend to like the more unusual stuff... We have a blues Christmas album from Alligator Records that's quite good...

But my favorites are the parodies. "Oh Little Town Of Bethlehem" done to the melody of "House Of The Rising Sun", for instance:

Ever since I worked in a book store during the Christmas season about 25 years ago my favorite Christmas record hands down is Odetta's Christmas Spirituals. She was a folk singer. I had not heard of her before then but I break out that CD every year right after Thanksgiving.

Ya know the worst part about Christmas, Christmas music. :barf:

And the very worst part about being a parent (so far)? Those dang holiday school music programs. Ugh.
Changing poopy diapers was a treat by comparison.
