Christmas music.......

Great thread! I never get tired of Christmas songs, only of people complaining about them. I mean come on, you can't live with it for one month a year?

You're missing a big one though, one of my favorites. I've never seen the video till now and it's pretty graphic, so maybe just hit play and scroll away if you're not in the mood.

The last one is pretty amazing. Other than that I find the repetition ruins Christmas music, especially two months worth. A school concert, church, and a little radio or carols on Christmas day is enough.

I think it's time to open this back up since the local radio station went 24/7 Christmas music Wednesday!!

What's new for 2015??

I hate Christmas (or holiday, or whatever it's PC to call it this week) music. It's either mediocre (or worse) crap of whatever genre, mixed with some sleighbells to make it sound "Christmasey", or it's the same crap you hear on the radio or whenever you walk into a Walgreens or wherever. Too much of it simply sucks. But we can't say it sucks, because it's Christmas music, so for some reason it's irreproachable? Screw that noise. The vast majority of it is purely commercial, which makes it hypocritical, and it typically sucks, but people can't admit to themselves or thers because that makes them hypocrites for saying that the music celebrating their faith sucks. Older stuff might not be as commercial, but it probably was. Disagree? Hit up Wal-Mart next Friday and tell me it's not commercial.

I said "most". It's not all bad. I want to stab myself in the ears with an icepick each time I have to hear "Rocking Around the Christmast Tree", but it's not all bad.

Sleighbells aside, if you can't get down with the groove to that, then you have no soul.

I'll also add that anything by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra get an automatic pass, because they're awesome.

I have heard a a few 'new' songs this year. I'll listen closer and get some names. It seems here that the Waitresses have became the popular Christmas song. Last year this radio station played it once or twice a day, now it's every hour.

OK.... I got issues with "The First Noel"...... "The first Noel, that the angels did sing, was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay...."
So.... "Noel" is French. There were no French people then. No French language. Just a bunch of smelly, barbaric Gauls who were fond of Roman wine.
The "shepherds" would probably be speaking Aramaic or somesuch.....

Yes, so there would't be the word "Christmas" then either as it didn't exist then. So you should also be upset at every song with Christmas in it, not just Noel. According to Wikipedia:
"Christmas" is a compound word originating in the term "Christ's Mass". It is derived from the Middle English Cristemasse, which is from Old English Crīstesmæsse, a phrase first recorded in 1038[8] followed by the word Cristes-messe in 1131.
