Closing in on THE knife...almost...

Owned BOTH versions of the GB knives, loved them both, liked the GB2 a bit more for the guard and have thought of getting another one, see, there it is again! lol but yes those are quite nice and very no nonsense kind of knives with exceptional cutting performance.

GB2 is definitely one of my favorites, along with a tanto Umnumzaan. Those are now my two most carried. I looked at the Jutland when it came out but didn't like the big choil and wanted a little bit longer blade.

Can't fault you there, it is a very solid knife !

Using the Jutland more today and it doesn't disappoint, even some careful cutting with just the fine point of the blade was easily done. A longer blade I think can get in it's own way at times.

I think for the most part we're driven to keep searching for THE knife, the one that you can rely on constantly. I've owned, well, a LOT lets just say! over the years and while some have gotten close, none had the staying power, for me. While it may have been just a passing fling, most have moved on to homes where they could find a loving family :)

BUT, I am closing in I think on THE knife. One that feels solid in the hand while not feeling heavy, one that opens reliably and locks up securely and one that has a good cutting geometry for most of what I need in an EDC and that is...drum roll please...the GiantMouse Ace Jutland.

Coming in at a close second, is the Artisan Andromeda, good scales, handy narrow pointy and sharp blade

These are the Non-Traditional knives, the Traditional knives I am closing in on that branch of my search for THE one.

While I've come to this decision, I am trying to see how long I can avoid the Exchange section of this forum, as I truly have enough and I am working to whittle down to just a select few and looking at those sales post can be hazardous to my goal, I must stay strong ;)

So post if you think you've settled on THE knife, folders mainly fixed blades I think I am getting close as well. I know some of you guys and gals are already settled on THE knife and I am envious of you all, some find it easy to do this, such as CRK line up, or a custom.

I have a few sales yet to go so I will attempt to only do upkeep on those, but I will strive to avoid opening other for sale threads, wish me luck!

The grind is just about perfect!

I agree it’s very deliberate and exact,

I had a brief journey into watches which the most expensive one I bought was a Sinn 656 and I loved it until it needed to have the mechanism cleaned up which cost me over $300, then I found out that’s normal for mechanical watches to be serviced every 4 years or so

so after it was finished being serviced I sold it which I ended up far on the loosing end of that time, but I still loved the look of the watch

since that time I tried many different models of lesser value and not automatic and the one I have now is very similar as far as readability and keeps excellent time

so for now I’m set as far as watches go

Jutland still holding its position

LOL Dude, I carried a Buck 110 for like 20 years (est. '72-92 and lost), then Spyderco C18P for like 10 years straight (est. 1992-2002), and around 2002 it was rotated with a Benchmade Mini Griptilian for another decade; before I finally started diversifying in the 20-teens with a bunch of other fun knives, because my son was a getting older and got interested in knives in the Cub Scouts and eventually Boy Scout Eagle Scout. 🤣

You'll love that knife for 1 month, or a decade, or forever; but you know you will still rotate your knives at some point.

EDIT - it must have been Oct 2nd 2011 when I got interested in diversifying - I joined BF. I just lurked...

Gary, those two knife pics look nice, as do your great lanyards.
I have stopped looking daily at the Exchange about a year ago. It was the first thing I examined for maybe ten yrs straight. My money is down, my age is way up, as are my physical limitations.
I have always enjoyed your posts and great pics, and your lanyards are out of this world.
I've been wondering about a new carry, for a LONG time now. My new ZT 0770 in M390 and carbon fiber is nice but a bit short for my hand.. My "as new" CRK 21 is superb but I've seen several "reblades" in "last forever without sharpening" steels, and would really like to try something like that. I wish CRK was a bit more "experimental" but ....if it ain't broke...
I have a Gayle Bradley 2 in M4 that's almost the cat's meow, a mean slicing machine but never carried it. These are grail models that I have never carried, for whatever reasons. Too nice to sell..yet...but perhaps soon.
I took a Google look at all of those knives you mentioned, but none rang a bell. Not fond of the blade tip that sweeps up; clip point is just fine.
One blade was too thick at 0.156" or whatever; one too light, one or two a bladesteel that I'm not fond of. Don't mistake my comments; the steels are just fine; but not my preference.
I remain with my large 21 or Bradley 2 in M4; either of which cannot be sneezed at.
Uncertainty is a bitch to overcome, friend.

Time is important and memory, at least mine, fades. My recollection of the GB2, what drove me to sell it off a few times :) were the scales, not overly partial to carbon fiber I guess.

Y'all got me looking at Anso knives, and I just now saw Italian ANSO Root slipjoints on sale as low as $79.99 for titanium and M390. Why so inexpensive? No pocket clip?
Very tempting for just the materials!

You're right, Gary. Those carbon fiber scales are a bit slippery, but the M4 blade is such an excellent slicer....

Yep, that's what drove me to get it several times ;) still tempted every now and then.
And, I may be putting the Andromeda up for sale as much as I like it, I still carry the Jutland so it doesn't see any use, and that's a waste of a good knife!
