Brian, my terminology might not be correct. You have a grind (flat, hollow, convex, etc.) on the blade, either symmetrical, or on one side of the blade only (chisel) which goes up to 1/4th of the blade height on scandis, to 1/2 on a sabre grind, or all the way up to the spine in V-flat grinds. And then you have the edge + bevel, which is about 1 mm high (plus minus, depending on the maker). It can also be ground in more shapes, eg. V-ground or convex. Anyway, that's the part you sharpen when the knife gets dull.
... yeah, bevel is the right term, I think. The knife has a grind on one side of the blade and a bevel on the other side. Seems quite an extreme case of assymetrical grind to me

Cabra, oh, no problem then. LOL :D

Maybe I'm going too data on it. It cuts, that's the important thing. I'm just curious, never seen it before.

ahhh.....huh?

Morning, gentlemen.
I have a question for the chisel experts. Let's say there is a knife with a chisel hollow ground blade - and the edge is ground on the opposite side from the grind, on the flat side of the blade. What would you think about it? Is it any good?

Love the millwork on the scale. Screw that, I love it all.

Ok i get it. Mike Snody dose this. His chisel grind have a small bevel cut on the flat side. This allows the blade to cut both left and right handed. Although it seems to still cut better to the plunge side...... I think technically its still a chisel grind...........

microbevel

Ok if I understand this metric system and 1mm is equal to 36 inches then what Filip is talking about is a hollow chisel convex saber grind knife with a maxybevel on the reverse edge.

data:D

Filip, I think a true chisel grind is probably just a little easier to maintain. While I strop one side of my chisel bring knives normally, I have to strop the opposite side a 1/2 to 2/3 less and keep the knife almost flat on the strop (5 ish degrees).

Ah, thanks guys. Makes perfect sense. Brian, your calculation is almost right, you just rounded up the result a bit, didn't you? :D
Nice avatar, Chickenplucker! Wool or Polartec?

Hey guys. Morning to you. Colder than a well digger's ass here in Kzoo. Which means its colder than a witch's titty up where Mike is at.
