Hey! Just got good news.

My young enlisted son has been told his first assignment: Bamberg, Germany.

Pretty cool. That's in Bavaria. I understand Bamberg's got about 9 breweries and its own 13th century cathedral.

I think some visits to Bavaria are in my future!

Great news, OldPhysics, indeed!
Damn. I'm just 4 hours drive from Bavaria and have seen only it's industrial part :o

Well, that's just sad.

When the boy gets settled in, I'll be sure you have contact information for him. Perhaps he can assist you as you seek out ... the more comforting side of the Bavarian experience!

It ain't cheap ... but no reason you can't go.

Seems that airfare, roundtrip, varies from $880 to $1190, depending on the season. If I was REALLY retired, I could just sit at Dover until Space A became available to Ramstein. But, sadly, I just don't have that kind of time.

Oktoberfest. For sure.

Nice! Thanks! We'll see then.

I'm at Germany all the time, a bit more north but if he ever needs something, shoot me an email or PM.
(I could send you my phone number if its necessary)

Sup club. Got me thinking about Germany again. I would love to go back and visit. Bavaria was probably my favorite part to be honest. The countryside that is. I remember Neuschwanstein Castle and lots of really good bread and Garmisch in the mountains. Not sure if that was part of the Alps or not

My best Bavarian experience is driving a 1.2l 50hp Škoda Fabia on a narrow countryside road in February - snow everywhere, the road was invisible under it, I navigated by the wooden poles along the road sticking from the snow piles... in one moment i went too close to the roadside and the car started sliding in the ditch (invisible under the snow)...
I made it. And then, weisswurst with coworkers... good times :)
