Thanks Sleeve and guys.
Redbe: it was sharp when it comes of the sandpaper, not paper cutting sharp but kind of in that way. That was a long time ago.
I will give it another try, go back some steps, use the sandpaper again and see what comes out. If she does not end up like I want, she will have to be sent to J.

BTW: that video of Brian is very illustrative, that thing cleared a lot of questions I had.

so during the photography of our Controlled Chaos calendar, we may or may not have had some of the scantily clad young ladies pose with a Camp and a bedc....just sayin....;)

I'll be needing high-res scans of those to,,, erm,, study the blades, yeah that's it,,, study the knives ! :D:D:D

Cabra, I can recommend a couple other things to try. Make sure there is no burr on the blade. Run your thumb nail in the direction from spine to blade and if your nail catches at all you have a burr (you have to check both sides). If you have a burr, you can just work the side with burr, on a strop with black compound, and it will knock it off pretty quickly. If it is a large burr or a misaligned edge you can steel the knife on both sides and then strop it again on both sides. Sand paper should be unnecessary once the edge has been converted to convex. I only use black (90% of the time) and green compound to maintain my edges. Remember to also use a light touch with the knife to the strop. The pressure to use is not much more than the weight of the blade.

Let me know how it goes or if you have any questions.

Just a side note, BBT, what leather should I use best for stropping? Yesterday, I saw a sheep hide for cleaning windscreens in a shop, but I don't know if it's not too soft or if it doesn't matter at all. I can get green & black compounds in a hardware store here, I think it must be the same or very similar to yours... Is a 2000-grit sandpaper much coarser than leather with the compound?

Oh, and good morning to all! :)

The leather needs to be pretty thick (probably at least .100"). The leather needs to actually needs to cup the edge of the blade to get/maintain the convex edge (shaped like a rifle bullet). If it is thin, you could mount it to a piece of cardboard or a mouse pad. 2000 grit sandpaper and black compound are almost identical. I good strop/strop bat costs $10-35 (JRE Industries). If it was me, I would have JRE custom load a strop with 3 black sides and 1 green side and have them ship it to Jeremy to go with your next knife (send Jeremy a few bucks to pay for any increase in shipping). Let me know if I can be of any more help.

Nice grinding thing, Jeremy!
BBT, thanks for your advice! I have some supplies I can try to make a strop with, if it doesn't work, I will do as you say and ask for the shipment of JRE strop with my next knife form Jeremy :)

(Hell, I'm stupid. I've already sharpened my knives with fine sandpaper over a mousepad, how could I think such a thin leather over a wooden slab would do?)
