Cabra, I can recommend a couple other things to try. Make sure there is no burr on the blade. Run your thumb nail in the direction from spine to blade and if your nail catches at all you have a burr (you have to check both sides). If you have a burr, you can just work the side with burr, on a strop with black compound, and it will knock it off pretty quickly. If it is a large burr or a misaligned edge you can steel the knife on both sides and then strop it again on both sides. Sand paper should be unnecessary once the edge has been converted to convex. I only use black (90% of the time) and green compound to maintain my edges. Remember to also use a light touch with the knife to the strop. The pressure to use is not much more than the weight of the blade.

Good info Brian, thanks. I'm in the same boat. I can get them to cut paper, but not shave. But then I guess that's what a razor is for,,,
