Ok. Seen a posting on a Knife Joker Manix 2 that I been wanting and this is the 3rd one I screwed out of... This knife was posted on BF a couple hours ago and I inquired about it (PM) 15 mins after him posting it. I asked a question because he did not have a grade of condition and I wanted to know if the blade was centered and how was the action. The pics were of the knife with the box and it was in a bag. He responded that it was in "great condition". He said that he would look it over good and get back to me on the blade centering and action as soon as he got back home. I told him Ill take it al long as its good!

I did not see the next message from him as my phone did not notify me. His message said that he has 4 people PM him about it and if I want it and asked for payment. (He never answered my questions about it). Then the next message was 5 min later saying it was sold and he wished that I bought it. And that "ill take it in the comments wins" .

Ok yea, technically the "ill take it" in comments wins, but I already messaged saying Ill take it based on him answering my questions.

So do I just jump on it and buy it then hope its in "great" shape? If I didn't ask anything I wouldn't have known the condition at all...

That's not how you do business.

Slow the f down and stand up to your end of the deal.

Also don't be lazy and take the knives out if the bag and take more than the 2 shitty pics (one of it in the box and one with the box open with it in the plastic bag) and add the damn grade and description

Btw, this does not make you a bad person. What it does do is help you with the art of compliance. And that's a good thing. Imagine if you were the first person to say in the thread I'll take it, and then the seller gives it to someone else. You would be complaining about that too. Can't have it both ways.

This one sucks, because I think you were right to ask questions, but if I'm the seller and I have one guy asking questions and four more offering money in hand I see no reason to wait on the guy asking about the condition. Just tell yourself the blade was rubbing the liner to make yourself feel better and keep your eyes peeled for the next one.

This is why I put language about "I'll take it if..." in my sales listings. That's not the same as "I'll take it." This seller didn't do anything wrong, IMO.

As a buyer, I've lost track of how many knives I've missed out on because I had questions and someone else didn't have any. And I'm fine with that.

I try and answer questions but if the post says first “I’ll take it” gets it then you’ve got to be good with it going in and plan on a catch and release if your not happy with it. Do you have a post up in the WTB? I try and sell there first but I don’t know how many others do the same. Sorry you missed it.

Someone that doesn't give good photos is probably hiding something anyway.
This is a tricky one. When it's a NIB knife and the photos are just demonstrating that they have it and it's new, I kind of get it.

But as a buyer, NIB from a stranger on the web and NIB from a knife store with a return policy are different things. I still want to know all the usual stuff about a NIB knife here -- any blade play, fit/finish issues, etc. -- just as if it weren't new. But lots of folks don't feel that way, AFAICT, because it seems like plenty of "minimalist" listings sell well. So what the heck do I know? :D

Why do you have to make so much sense in your posts?? 😅

I have to edit and add to my to my original post (7:27 CDT). I should have have started my comment with, "C'mon man, really".

Well I would make an exception for someone here on BFC that is trusted by many members. I was mainly referring to someone online that you know nothing about.

I'm sure it all worked out exactly the way it was supposed to. Another one will come up, and you'll be there first. And you'll be very pleased. ;)

The is an awesome example of such a common thing on here. First props to the OP for bringing this up and second props to fellow members for such awesome, intelligent answers.

I've actually been on the other side of this where I posted "I'll take it" in the thread and I was first and then a few minutes to 8 minutes later get a private message saying the knife was sold. Pretty much sucks big time and it was a rare, expensive over $500 knife. I was very, very upset and bummed. I actually am 100 percent on board with the golden rule of "I'll take it" gets priority - 100 percent. It makes things so very simple and as fair as a transaction like what is on the exchange can be.

As others stated, you had the opportunity when told "great condition". Here especially at Bladeforums it is all about trust and we must assume the other is telling the truth and taking into account the action and the centering as well. Didn't you mention was your 3rd time? This means you know there is a high demand for this knife which is why you should have been fast and decisive, period. Then send a private message and debate the finer details and if you have to back out, fine as really is on the seller since he said "great condition" and that accounts for the action and the centering (usually). Also if you back out no harm to him as he had 4 or 5 others waiting in line. This only works though if you are 100 percent certain you want the knife and have the funds to slide him/her.

Looks like you are fairly new here so chalk it up to a learning process but really it is about trust and whether a seller has good photos or not is irrelevant. This does not mean he or she is hiding anything or trying to. Some people have old cameras and use old flip phones and not into the new technology, does this mean we have something to hide? Certainly not and it comes down to basically reasoning. Just because someone does or doesn't have A doesn't mean this person has outcome C (hiding). Not everyone is photo-literate, this doesn't make them lack integrity. Personally, if a seller posts NIB and already has a few good feedback, I'm good without even seeing photos if the price is right and it is a hot knife. In the end it is based on the trust and the vast majority of folks on here are honest, upstanding people.

Good luck in your future dealings and enjoy this great place because it is a great place and remember, the forum is what we make of it.

Why are you doing this the hard way? Just post a want ad and let the members contact you about the knife.
