C'mon man, really????

Te seller has the right to choose who they want to sell to. I't's always been that way.

Yep, but if they want to give their buddies first choice and disregard 'the first I'll take it', why don't they just send an email to their buddies saying that they are going to sell it, and would they like to have it? It sounds simple to me and doesn't cause bad blood among members on the forum.

All of my current sales thread start with “I’ll take it doesn’t guarantee you the knife”.

I’ve had too many instances where someone posts “I’ll take it” only find out they then ask questions, make a different offer, or they’re international (I don’t care if you’re using a proxy in the US, I still don’t want to deal with that crap).

You hadn’t made a firm deal yet, so you were passed over. I see nothing wrong with it.

And some say that they reserve the right to sell or not to sell to whomever they choose. That's cool. But if someone says that the first 'I'll take it, gets it', then the first I'll take it should get it.

I'll take it if, is not the same as I'll take it. The seller had other firm buyers and even gave the Op a chance to firm up his position. Sure he could have waited until he got home and checked the knife over for the OP's questions before selling, but some if not all the firm buyers could be gone then, and his ad on page 2. The sellers objective is to sell the knife. It was simply a miss by the OP not an I got screwed. On hot items and great prices you have to act quickly or chance losing out. A sort of take it will not guarantee your position. Since we haven't determined if this knife did meet the OP's expectations, he may not have missed out at all
If the OP has had 3 chances at this knife model, he very likely will get a chance at a 4th

Had you complied with the instructions stated in the sales thread you would be owning the knife right now

This one is on YOU

You should have never started this thread

You state he didn't list grade of condition, it clearly says in his sales thread LNIB

If this is a common problem you encounter, the issue may be you, not the sellers.

That's not the case here, though. It was "'I'll take it, IF ...."

Regarding want to buy adds, they haven't worked for me. I've tried several times, I had good knife with a very fair price, made an offer, but invariably the potential buyer starts to negotiate, ask for more pictures, etc. Much, much easier to post it for sale for everyone.

Roland.

That's true. I've also seen someone post that they want to buy a knife, and nobody answers them. Then a day or so later the exact knife is offered for sale on the For Sale thread. Putting the ask for the knife did them no good at all.

I'll add
Being cautious is not a bad thing. It may cause you to miss a few knives(good or bad), but in the end you hopefully will get knives to your liking. Just not worthy of complaining about the seller if you miss.
and as already stated- you can't sneak in with a tentative I'll take it.

So it's a problem you've never personally encountered, but feel it's so frequent that you had to comment on it here? That's...certainly something you can do.

Yep.

Edit: Except for the 'frequent' part. I really don't think it happens very often but I don't check every sale listing.

Ok. Seen a posting on a Knife Joker

I did not see the next message from him as my phone did not notify me.

Slow the f down and stand up to your end of the deal.

Also don't be lazy and take the knives out if the bag and take more than the 2 shitty pics
An important key to any business deal/transaction: "A meeting of the minds."
The bottom line is, you never had a deal with this seller.....maybe in your mind you did, but you clearly didn't.

Secondly: This is 100% on you, for pulling one of those BS, "I'll take it," moves, with a stipulation.

Thirdly: Get a new phone, 1 that alerts you to new messages.

FWIW: You've been a member here for 5 months, yet you're already starting a negative thread complaining about another member, needlessly.

Conclusion: Self entitlement.

So he’s complaining just to complain.
^ Sums it up perfectly.

To the OP: Read The RICKSTER'S post above, and then read it again.

Rick has been a member here for nearly 20 years (3,256 posts). He's a well respected long time member/mentor, I personally look up to. You can learn a thing or 2, by reading more, & posting less.

You may want to try and re-frame your thinking/logic before posting here next time. Good luck

Depends...
Not everybody looks at the WTB ads; but maybe the ad got the seller to thinking about his. It could also be that the seller made an offer, but the two didn't come to an agreement; so the knife got posted. There's also the potential for an agreement having been made, and the knife subsequently being posted for sale...specifically for the purpose of using the feedback system (since WTB ads are not eligible)

Don't want to derail this thread, but since the OP hasn't been back .....

Wanted to point out that, unless something changed very recently, the feedback system WILL accept feedback left resulting from a sale made through the WTB forum. I know, because I did it not long ago for someone selling me a knife based on my post. The "Add Feedback" links are active and the system permits their use (assuming a reply to the WTB post was made).

Odd that posts would be required in WTB, when they are no longer required in For Sale; but I can't dispute your statement because I'm not willing to make a post to find out. I did make a request to have that forum added to the eligibility (after I was unable to leave feedback after a sale); so maybe it they addressed it.
