Coffee can fix a lot of things, but not everything.... v. New Peanut Content!!!

Ok, so I'm seeing an awful lot about darkening bone, but will it work on wood? Much of the ebony wood I'm seeing out there is pretty light. I prefer as dark as possible.

I don't think it would work well on wood. Water can be more damaging to wood.... stain might be the way to go, but you'd have to check on the species and whether or not the wood had been treated or stabilized.

Pipeman mentione an oil based Fiebings leather dye. I have used the alcohol based with great success. Maybe he will be along to offer advice on wether the oil based may work on wood.

I bought that same canoe the OP has. The dye job was ok, but the bone was so ruff it would almost cut the fingers and didn't feel good when holding. I sent it back to case because the blades wobbled so bad and the pins were sticking up through the bolsters. I'm wondering if they will repair it or send a new one?

Anyways I just bought a 3 1/2 inch CV Texas Jack and would love to do a tea soak. How long do you recommend it soak?

Fieblings leather dye for wood and bone and leather and and and. :D Black oil dye NOT the USMC black.

Best regards

Robin

Some have mentioned issues with bone or joints soaking in water. I have had no issues, but the results from the leather dye jobs look great.

Gotcha! Thanks for the heads up. I'm trying to use what I have around the house and ofcourse Hobby Lobby is closed today. I went ahead with fingers crossed using black tea. I'll post a before and after pic and will see if it causes any issues.

Dropping both of my chestnut bone knives in coffee right now to even out the scales. Thanks for the tip!

EDIT: Here they are!

I like the looks of many of these caffeine-based experiments. Does the color hold up well? Does it bleed or fade over time?
