Coffee

Returned for a visit to where it all began for me. A bag of Peet's Major Dickason's blend, on sale for a nice price. I first encountered Peet's when I did a summer internship in San Francisco in 1980 (at the time, I had never been west of Corpus Christi). First time I had sampled anything other than Folgers or Maxwell House, and it blew me away. It's roasted darker than I generally enjoy my coffee these days, but it still holds a place in my heart.

This is my favorite bean for French press. I run it through a Capresso Infinity Conical Burr Grinder on the second-to-coarsest setting. Pressing after a 3-4 minute soak, it pours with a delightfully smooth texture and rich crema.

I just placed an order with Geek Grind Coffee. Some of their stuff sounds really good! All hale the goblin king! 😂

What a nerd...🙃

Just roasted some coffee tonight. Been thinking about upgrading my roasting setup lately for more capacity and ease of use but undecided what route to go.
Dan,
I've thought about making the jump into roasting. But I couldn't decide which roaster would best serve me, And at $1500.00++.
Maybe when I retire..(At 64 with teenagers, I'm just tired)
Good luck and keep us posted.

I initially balked at $100 for a semi-decent burr grinder. That was years ago and it really has made the difference for French press.

I imagine that home roasting could be a rewarding adventure. Between that price tag and adding another process to my life, I just haven't been ready to take my coffee adventure to the next level.

I bought a roaster from Sweet Maria’s for $28 and they include 4 pounds of green beans! It’s not the best roaster in the world, but it will get you started with the process.

Had my first Kenyan last week. Came from Corvus, been on a big kick of theirs for a while now. It’s not bad, I’ll drink all of the bag with no problems.
Dcdavis Dcdavis ,
After your post I thought I'd check out Corvus. And with the 20% discount and free shipping sign me up!
I ordered Guatemala, Washed Ethiopia, Costa Rica, Sumatra, and Colombia.
I've been stuck on IronBean for a while now so this will be a nice change of pace.
Thanks for the "Heads Up".

I’ve still been buying from them. Haven’t had a bad one yet. I’ve got a bag of Guatemala on the way. They had a couple really good natural Ethiopians that are sold out now, one was a geisha. If the Colombian is the San Pedro I know Monofletch Monofletch was a fan of it.

I had two new bags from a roaster I haven’t tried before show up today, B&W coffee roasters. Both Ethiopian, one natural and one hydro process. Haven’t had a hydro before FF221780-2737-4B8E-B003-EE2C324E93E6.jpeg

You have a fruity future Dcdavis Dcdavis
Let us know how that B&W is.
Man I’ve really grown to like the wild and different tasting coffees. Somewhat got bored of the “coffee” tasting coffees. I’m sure that’ll change tho.

I opened the B&W hydro washed this morning. It was “ok”. Nothing to brag about. I’ll have to change the grind and play around with it some more. Just was kinda bland. I’ve got high hopes for the natural process tho. They’ve usually got that reach out and grab ya taste.
Dcdavis,
Yep, San Pedro
That was one of the first ones that got me into Corvus. That and a washed Rwanda

Every morning, I get up about 2 hours before anyone else so that I can have my coffee in peace. In exchange for that peace, I take Mrs. McGee coffee in bed. For the past few years, it’s Been Dunkin’ Donuts coffee with half and half. The key, though, is the French press coffee pot. It’s amazing how much flavor is lost to a paper filter.

Agreed on the paper filter. I stopped using them a long time ago.

Does a metal filter - mainly French press - create a headache for cleaning up?
