Coffee

That JH Lloyd reminded me a bit of a DW Childress liner lock I picked up here last year. Had to post it up.
Do yourselves a favor and pick up a box of Keebler cinnamon grahams and Hershey's chocolate almond spread. Or if you have issues with your waistline do yourself a favor and don't. ;) It's so good with my semi-bitter little espresso blend.

That reminds me of Cookie butter! When it first came out people were hoarding boxes full of them. It got so bad people were fighting over it and the store limited it to 1 per visit per visit.

Now they have chunky and another version with chocolate swirled in. Delicious!!!

The mail lady just stopped and had a package for me.

P.E. sent me a get well soon box! Thanks a lot Ben! It is hard trying to keep busy at home while stuck in a recliner, but at least now I have some high quality coffee to drink!! I owe you. When I heal I will return the favor. :D

I need to be closer to a Trader Joe's! So much great stuff.
The Hershey's spread is a lot like Nutella but a little less expensive (or smaller) with more chocolate flavor. Right up my alley. :)

My pleasure, its their bean of the month. I got you the dark stuff instead of the light and fruity.;) Its weighted out in 2 ounce bags and vac sealed so you can store it for awhile.

No worries on the payback, enjoy and rest up.:)

I brewed up some of that liquid gold this morning. It is dark and heavy, but there are still a lot of....highlights there. It wasn't over roasted like most darks. You guys are slowly turning me into a coffee snob. I am starting too drink coffee with my pinkies out!:D

I watched some videos on the "proper" way to use a pour over brewing thingy. I thought to myself, "If I had to do all that nonsense, I would drink instant.".
I have tried a fair number of brewing methods. So far the little Tiamo K01 is as good as any and better than most. (IMHO, of course)

I don't know, but like anything that people become obsessed with, they go overboard. Example, my brother-in-law went to a wine tasting class at the local college.
Holy do-do! He instantly began to drive everyone nuts with his obsession. Hey! It's just sour grapes. :p

After drinking "custom" coffee- I can't do Folders or Maxwell House any more. Most gas station coffee is out as well. I have to admit, it is a fun hobby.

Just like our knife problem. To most people "it's just a knife"..... To us it's a TGLB comp finish in INFI steel with black paper scales.

I visit my folks once a week or so and they know I'm a coffee drinker so that's what we always have. So as not to offend I do partake of the instant that's provided along with the non-dairy creamer and fake sugar. Of course it's not the best but I think of it as a coffee "flavored" drink and do what I gotta do. It's not horrible it's just not what I'm accustomed to anymore. And I'm not going to try to convert a couple of 80 somethings. I've made that mistake before.

I agree. The ground stuff in those big cans is terrible. Without reservations, the worst coffee that I ever tried is Dunkin Donuts. I couldn't get through 1 cup,
but I guess some people like it. Right now I'm working my way through a pound of Starbucks Pike Place. Some people compare it to Folgers, but I like it. I
have bought coffee from Green Mountain and their Vermont Country Blend is pretty good, but no better than the better coffee available at the super market.
Tully, Peets, Caribou.

Most gas station coffee is really bad, but I have a confession to make. I hope I don't get banned from this thread. I like McDonalds coffee.

Uffda,
I agree. Of all the fast food coffee available, McD's is well out in front. Subway claims to use Seattle's Best, but it isn't close to the SB I am use to.
I had to force my way through a yellow bag of Gevallia my with had a coupon for-- WOW! That was bad.

I called my eye doctor and told him that every time I drink coffee, I get a pain in my eye.
He thinks for a second and then says, "Take the spoon out of your cup."

A major heat storm passed through here reaching a record high limit set in 1909 making it difficult to make a drink at home. So let's do an Arcadia, Pasadena, and Glendale Jitter tour!

Taza.
Brewer & Grinder: La Marzocco GB5, Compak K10 fresh.
Beans: Andante roasters, Camien espresso blend.
Taste: More caramel and nutty flavor with very little acidity compared to the Andante cafe which is brighter. 3.0 out of 5.0 score.

Jameson Brown roasters.
Brewer & Grinder: La Marzocco Linea, Mahlkonig K30 Vario anniversary.
Beans: Ethiopian, Lomi Tashi. "Very crisp and cleaner than expected. Light lemon and almond notes with a very pleasant sweetness."
Taste: Slightly watered down, nutty, and overextracted bitters. 2.5 score.

Jones Coffee Roasters. This place has some amazing vintage manual levers for sale. Also a rude roaster that acted too busy to help and made lots of grumbling noise when he had to show me where the coffee was.
Brewer & Grinder: La Marzocco Linea, Compak K10.
Beans: JC espresso blend.
Taste: Watery, thin, and little flavor except a nutty bitter taste. Score 2.5.

Disco Vintage Manual Lever!

Copa Vida. This is the place a lot baristas have recommended to me. Has the best espresso machine in LA so I tried 2 different beans.
Brewer & Grinder: Kees van der Westen, Spirit. Mazzer Robur.
Beans: 1st drink 49th Parallel, Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Dumerso S.O.E. 2nd drink 49th Parallel Epic epsresso.
Taste: Yirgacheffe: Nice acidic notes that is well balanced to the last drop. Epic: A little too hot and that made it bland with no highlight. 3.5, 3.0.

Intelligentsia.
Brewer & Grinder: Synesso Hydra. Mazzer Robur.
Beans: Black Cat
Taste: Bland, lacks acidity and sweetness but consistent taste with the last drop being even more bitter. Score 2.7.

True and the Brave roasters.
Brewer & Grinder: La Marzocco GB5, Mazzer Robur.
Beans: Reel to Reel espresso, their roasted in house blend of Peru, Brazil, Ethiopian.
Taste: Kinda hot but it had hints of blueberrry, nuts, and caramel. Score 3.2.

I was born and raised in the PRK and lived for 28 years in Goleta. When the Santa Ana winds were blowing it was miserable. I have seen temperatures as high as 112º and very
few people have AC. I have been in AZ for 10 years and the hottest it has been is 103º and that's usually just for a day or two. Right now it's 82º, but, winter is coming.

Blade and Brew of the day!

Three Sisters Forge Beast and Sight Glass Colombian El Meridiano, Tolima.
Location: ASOCEAS Cooperative. Herrera, Tolima.
Altitude: 1500-1900 masl.
Varietal/Processing: Caturra and Typica. Washed.
Tasting notes: "Notes of apple, fresh cherries, and balanced by flavors of red grape and ripe plum."

It is hard to compete with P.E. and Uffda. One of their knives is worth more than my entire collection. :D Anyway, this was my morning......
