Coffee

David,

If there is a Kroger supermarket near you, you might try their Private Selection Sumatra Mandheling if they have it. I'm on my 3rd bag.
Even though it's roasted medium dark, it doesn't have that burnt taste.

Thanks Uffda, I'm writing it down. Appreciate the tip.

Those pop up places are really popular and are popping up all over LA. It appears they are a good way to get your foot wet in the coffee service business. I have also had a drink from a Rancilio and it was the smoothest richest drink I have had to date. Did you get a chance to ask the roaster his roast profiles? Can the average at home roaster match or beat a professional artisan master roaster?

 Better watch those roast dates. ;)

I'm gonna go back tomorrow, honestly he does super small batches, like he roasts it when you order it, he's pretty nice too.

Roast date on the intelligentsia was like 9/25 , I didn't buy any, would be good for cold brew though

Thanks for the advice, guys. I'm looking forward to trying it. May post a picture too, but after ten cups/pictures or so I'll run out of knives and have go out to the forge and make more.:D

I think it would be an excellent idea to post your blades.:)

A little representative of my last job (one of 'em) posed in front for your enjoyment...or not.

Nice BM grip! Did you customize it? Can you post more of your beautiful work?

Target is going to harm Intelligentsia's brand by selling beans way past their peak roast freshness.:barf:

They where already on clearance 12 buck a pound

Cold brew it is then. Just noticed Intelligentsia sells by the pound instead of the normal 12 ounces. Quality control better improve or they will lose their old customers and their new ones will just stick with the less expensive same old brand.

That's a stock Grip with the Seabee logo engraved.
14 years served, I had to have one.
Haven't used it yet and I was thinking of getting some custom Wilkins scales for it. Maybe that would put it in my pocket.

Just don't tell the guys over on the Spydie sub-forum I've got a Grip with a hole in it...

I have some stuff coming from blue bottle we will see if I like it. I had stump towns hairbender today too, pulled from a slayer. It wasn't bad. Target had black cat so maybe if they have a fresh bag I'll get some of that when I need more beans

Very nice, I haven't seen that edition yet! Thanks for your service.:)

Blue bottle Roman espresso has been my favorite bean so far. I could not mess it up. Over or under extracted, high or low temps. had no bitterness and when made correctly had a hint of blueberries. They sell in 6 ounce bags for $9.50.

The hairbender I had from Stumptown pulled from their custom La Marzocco Strada was excellent. I have read drip can be weak and you may have to add more beans.

ls Target going to sell it cheaper than online or the cafes?

I'm not sure what I'm getting, I think I'm getting a single origin, the stump town was pretty good, had it in a Gibraltar it tasted kinda like very very dark chocolate. I don't think that the stuff at target is their supper high end stuff. They had the el gallo and a couple of black cats

I'd leave that Grip just the way God made it! Hole or not....it is beautiful!

I'll probably leave it alone.
I tried emailing Wilkins but it came back as an invalid address or something. I guess the decision not to modify the grip was made for me.

I've been using my Bodum French press with filtered water and 8 O'Clock Coffee whole beans. I use a modern Braun grinder or a antique hand crank grinder.

Great coffee. I can't stand Starbucks.

It's all a matter of taste. I like Starbucks Pike Place. I tried 8'Oclock and didn't care much for it. I have tried most of the better supermarket coffees. Tully, Peets, Caribou, etc. I like Caribou, but it's hard to find their whole bean coffee here.

I imagine that some people like Dunkin Donuts and Gevalia. :barf:

Try some of the *Bucks Ethiopian medium roast. Tasty and easy to find.
The issue is with some of the dark roasted blends they sell. I think someone pees in it.

I think stock looks great, the orange and black go well together with halloween coming up.

I like those antique grinders and they still stand up to modern handhelds.

The California ABS Hammer In is this weekend 10/24- 10/26 and the knife show is on 10/25 saturday. Does anyone know any good coffee places nearby Tulare and must see coffee places in Santa Barbara?

COS Tulare College Center, 4999 East Bardsley Avenue, Tulare, California. http://www.americanbladesmith.com/i...s&subsection=show_events_details&events_id=23

The event looks interesting. I'm envious.
I've got to get back on the west coast, this place is killing me.:(

I used to go to Santa Barbara a lot when I lived in Ventura. Good art scene so I imagine there'll be a thriving coffee culture. Not as though the two are necessarily synonymous but in most cases...
