Coffee

Thanks for the recommendation.
I just ordered some Peet's Sumatran Batak, Batak Peaberry and a pound of Arabian Mocha Sanani. I was 15 cents short of free shipping so I threw in a bag of chocolate covered Bing cherries that are on sale. :) Tasty.

Sorry Wayne................

Awfully slow up in here lately... Where's PE at?

Anyway, I just got my Baratza Encore today.
Nice piece of gear.
It performs very well, relatively quiet, and is adjustable down to such a fine setting that my little espresso machine (basically my machine is the equivalent of the easy bake oven of espresso machines) won't even push water through the grind.(supposedly operates at 15 bar) I adjusted the setting up to 6 from the initial 3 and got a great result with very few fines (if that's proper terminology??) remaining in the cup. I'll go with the setting on 7 tomorrow and check the result.
The espresso was delicious btw. Whatever faults my little machine has it still makes a passable cup using quality beans. Today I'm using a dark Sumatra from Seattle Trading? I think. I get it at the Fresh Market here. Some good selections available there but I'm looking forward to my delivery from Peet's.
And man, this thing was boxed!! Almost like a joke box in box in box... I weighed the packaging, 2.6 pounds! Pretty crazy for a grinder that measures just over 13 inches tall.
What else...It's basically got just an on/off switch on the side so it's sort of a guess as to how much grind is in the hopper. No big deal except for the 3 different grinds I use regularly. I'll save the leftovers for drip.
The burr is simple to remove for cleaning so that's a plus.
I'm really happy with this purchase. Thanks again for the recommendation PE.

And for a few photos.
And to keep the blade folks happy, my new Spyderco Foundry I received yesterday. It has usurped all other knives in my possession. Everything else went into storage yesterday except for 6 I think. If you ask nice I'll get a shot of those I felt worthy for my everyday carries. ;)

Finished product.
I used about 15 grams in the filter and extracted 27 grams. It was tasty!

I am looking for my next knife as I suffer through the Dunkin' Donuts coffee my wife had a coupon for!!!! I want a new fixed blade. Maybe an EESE 6, RMD, or something like that. It's either that or something I could EDC like the RAT 3. There are so many choices.......:D

I really like this knife......

I'd find a way! :D

That's a sweet knife!
I'd rather have it in Viper's N690 for ease of sharpening but get that D2 sharp and it'll hold it forever.

I received the delivery from Peet's today and they are top notch. Roasted on Wednesday and here by Friday. Notifications were sent, well packaged, etc. I'll give them my business again.

Here are the varieties.

I tried the Sumatra Batak first. Wow, is this what fresh coffee is supposed to taste like!!?
Now I see what "bloom" means.
I need to shoot a video comparing old roast to fresh roast.
Fresh actually blooms (duh) in the Chemex. The stuff I usually get around here just lays flat when I add the first water.
Live and learn.

Here is a beautiful place, at nearly 8000 ft. above sea level. Finca Takesi, Bolivia. According to Intelligentsia, it is the highest coffee plantation in the world.

Nice knife John.
I just ordered an Emerson Persian this week. My first actual Emerson, not a waved collaboration. I know I said no more but what can I say, I'm weak. :( And it's winter so I need new stuff to keep me amused or else things get a little weird. ;)

Took this shot a couple of days ago. Sumatra Batak. I usually use about 15 grams in and get around 25-30 grams out.
Some of the best espresso I've had.

Not a bad looking knife for the price. I was going to get a ESEE6, RAT 7, or BK 10, but I didn't want to be like everyone else. :D I figured I'd try it out. I also ordered something else you might like. I'll post pics when they all arrive!! ;)

This coffee roaster is a couple doors down from my work. They do not sell direct- I had to go to a certain local store to get it. I smell them roasting coffee all day long. :o
This is as close to the Vietnamese coffee Chris sent me. Chocolate and nuts- but the flavor doesn't stick around for long.

This knife was given to me by my stepson. It's the only knife I have left for a pic. :( (sorry) It is huge with a nice all leather sheath. It has serrations everywere!!! At least it was made in Taiwan not China.

How was it prepped? And where?

I used a press, but not sure what you mean by where. The point is, it's supposed to have chocolate overtones, and I'm just not getting that. it's a pleasant coffee, but not worth the extra expense, imho. Still, glad I tried it. I think I like Peete's MD better.
