Cold steel 2014

Keep it moving guys, Enough with the 'I'm disappointed" comments. Where all these comments on the other makers 2014 lineup? Most other companies aren't offering anything any better.

I agree. As said this is the year of the machete's and swords. Next year the year of the folder may be back. Again, I would rather they bring out game changing folders like the American Lawman and Recon 1 then substandard folders.

It's a shame people get so upset about new releases. I have wayyyyyyyy too many knives already. I am relieved when there aren't too many things on my buy list.
I thought the Espadas would be coming out with stonewashed blades this year? Has this already been discussed somewhere else?
I want a large G-10 Espada with a stonewashed or satin blade really bad. I'm waiting, lol.
I am looking forward to getting an Eland. I love how CS makes ridiculously large, inexpensive and useable knives. If these are cheap like the Kudu I am going to get some for my brothers. I know they would get a kick out these little pocket knives.

Swords, throwing stars, Brooklyn smasher style bats, dart looking things, etc. I guess that's good for all of the mall ninjas out there. :)

Honestly I'm currently happy with their folder lineup as it is.

No, if a user is disappointed, he has every right to say so, nay, he should say so. Companies exist because of their customers. If their customers aren't happy, the company should hear about it, so they can possibly correct the problem in the future. As long as the people are expressing their views reasonably and not posting something like "Screw you Cold Steel" or comments like that, there is NOTHING wrong with expressing your views on what the company is doing-that is what boards like this exist for, they're not just meant as a love fest for the company. Sure, lots of us love CS products, but if they do something we are unhappy with, we have JUST as much right to express that view as well, as long as we're being civil about it. And dude, if you haven't seen comments on the other makers you obviously haven't been looking. There's a whole thread longer than this one called something like "Is anyone else disappointed with Spyderco's 2014 lineup?" with most of the answers being yes. There's an 8 page discussion on the new Kershaw stuff, with about half the people complaining about the number of China made models and/or the use of 8Cr13MoV...there are similar complaints in threads devoted to specific 2014 models, such as the Strobe. That's at least 2 major makers that have had plenty of comments like these. I can't really speak for the others, I looked over SOG's new lineup, didn't see anything I was interested in(as usual), said as much, then moved on, and don't care enough about SOG as a company to see if anyone else feels the same way. I saw a few comments expressing a general lack of interest with new CRKT stuff as well(likewise, the only things they're releasing this year that I really care about are a couple of machetes), but CRKT as a company usually doesn't release a ton I care about so again, I haven't been following them as much to see if the views on their new lineup is mostly positive or negative.

As for most other companies not offering anything better, I guess better is subjective, but most companies are offering stuff that is at least usable/practical. You may or may not like the new folders from Kershaw or Spyderco or CRKT or whatever, but if you do, you can carry them and use them. Even if you're like me, you might like some of the new Cold Steel swords, but unless you're Blade, Duncan MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod, William Wallace, Conan the Barbarian, or something like that, you can't exactly walk around with a sword at you side, which makes someone like me a lot less likely to pay the money for something like that even on the ones I DO like. Do I like the halberds? Sure. But can I actually use the halberds? Only in my backyard to smash up fruit or water bottles or wood stumps or whatever.

And in regards to the better is subjective thing...I doubt I'll be buying any new Spyderco designs this year due to price(I'd like that Tatanka if I can get it without it costing $200), but from Kershaw, there's several of those Emerson collabs I'll be buying, I'm definitely getting a Strobe and a teal Leek, probably will pick up the blackwash Cryo, and there's a couple of other designs I may or may not buy as well. CRKT has 2 machetes I'll be getting, and I may pick up that karambit Minimalist. Condor I'll be picking up at least half their lineup. Cold Steel, I'll be picking up a Thai machete, an Eland, and...probably nothing else unless that Bowie drops below $100. I wouldn't MIND having a Grosse Messer for example, but with a street price probably close to $200, I'm not likely to buy it simply cause the sword won't be something I can use.

And to Humint, NOBODY is asking for substandard folders. You seem to be under the impression that if they brought a folder out this year it would be substandard-they have put out new folders like EVERY other year without putting out substandard ones, so why do you think it would be different this year?

I'm just wondering when the stuff will be coming out. I'd like to get a couple of Elands to loan out on a fishing trip I'm taking in march cause I hate to let people handle gear I care about and I'm guessing at the price if they go overboard I'm not going to want to toss someone after them. The new thai machete is cool and I'll be grabbing one to play with and add to my machete collection but it can wait. Hopefully the new stuff will show sooner rather than later.

Very disappointed in the line up. I was really hoping for better steel in the current model folders. Would have bought 4 or 5 of them. It seems to be a common theme in the list of "what would you like to see" type lists but yet Cold Steel would rather focus on swords, spears and throwing stars. I am doubtful but there is always hope for next year.

Yes, the stonewashed blades were supposed to start showing up in 2013 as the older, bead-blasted models sold out.

It was supposed to be the G10 Espadas, The Rajahs and the Spartan.

The Spartan is available in stonewash from certain dealers already.

I am unsure about any of the other models though.

I'm thinking there's a couple more things coming out cause Blade HQ lists 3 more machetes coming soon. A heavy machete knife, bolo machete knife and a kukri plus machete. Hope there's more that we haven't seen.

I'm a card carrying mall ninja! You gotta have a little fun with your hobbies.

That Thai machete/mini-naginata thing is cool.

The only hope i have left for this year is for some more blades to come out in the warcraft line.We wont any folders , and id be surprised to see any other big ticket fixed blades.

I bought a stonewash Rajah II in December. I don't know about the other models though.

Hope you're right. I'm always interested in more machetes(seriously, I already own just about enough to arm an entire South American revolution), and CS machetes are always cheaply priced so I can pick up any models that interest me without having to worry about paying an arm and a leg. That's one reason I love Condor so much, tons of great machetes and big camp knives at a good price. Cold Steel's aren't as awesome as Condors, but they're also like half the price, so I'm perfectly fine with that.

By the way, here the news for 2014 are introduced. But what´s about these for 2013? Up to now I cannot find the counter point with a 6 inch blade for ex.

Looks pretty similar to the Royal Kukri, just a bit smaller? Probably pick it up though, even though since it's another kukri version it's not quite as exciting as the Thai machete.

Yes, this is a 3-inch smaller version of the Royal Kukri machete.

Not a small knife to be sure though!

This is one of the few 2014 Cold Steel products I will get.

Yeah, 12 inches is still a nice sized blade. This isn't necessarily my top priority, but I will likely pick one up. It, the Eland, and the Thai machete seem to be the only CS things I'll be buying this year, unless that Bowie drops below $100. Although maybe they still have more stuff to add, BladeHQ still shows 2 more machetes available for pre-order that they haven't shown yet, so we'll see.
