Keep it moving guys, Enough with the 'I'm disappointed" comments. Where all these comments on the other makers 2014 lineup? Most other companies aren't offering anything any better.
No, if a user is disappointed, he has every right to say so, nay, he should say so. Companies exist because of their customers. If their customers aren't happy, the company should hear about it, so they can possibly correct the problem in the future. As long as the people are expressing their views reasonably and not posting something like "Screw you Cold Steel" or comments like that, there is NOTHING wrong with expressing your views on what the company is doing-that is what boards like this exist for, they're not just meant as a love fest for the company. Sure, lots of us love CS products, but if they do something we are unhappy with, we have JUST as much right to express that view as well, as long as we're being civil about it. And dude, if you haven't seen comments on the other makers you obviously haven't been looking. There's a whole thread longer than this one called something like "Is anyone else disappointed with Spyderco's 2014 lineup?" with most of the answers being yes. There's an 8 page discussion on the new Kershaw stuff, with about half the people complaining about the number of China made models and/or the use of 8Cr13MoV...there are similar complaints in threads devoted to specific 2014 models, such as the Strobe. That's at least 2 major makers that have had plenty of comments like these. I can't really speak for the others, I looked over SOG's new lineup, didn't see anything I was interested in(as usual), said as much, then moved on, and don't care enough about SOG as a company to see if anyone else feels the same way. I saw a few comments expressing a general lack of interest with new CRKT stuff as well(likewise, the only things they're releasing this year that I really care about are a couple of machetes), but CRKT as a company usually doesn't release a ton I care about so again, I haven't been following them as much to see if the views on their new lineup is mostly positive or negative.
As for most other companies not offering anything better, I guess better is subjective, but most companies are offering stuff that is at least usable/practical. You may or may not like the new folders from Kershaw or Spyderco or CRKT or whatever, but if you do, you can carry them and use them. Even if you're like me, you might like some of the new Cold Steel swords, but unless you're Blade, Duncan MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod, William Wallace, Conan the Barbarian, or something like that, you can't exactly walk around with a sword at you side, which makes someone like me a lot less likely to pay the money for something like that even on the ones I DO like. Do I like the halberds? Sure. But can I actually use the halberds? Only in my backyard to smash up fruit or water bottles or wood stumps or whatever.
And in regards to the better is subjective thing...I doubt I'll be buying any new Spyderco designs this year due to price(I'd like that Tatanka if I can get it without it costing $200), but from Kershaw, there's several of those Emerson collabs I'll be buying, I'm definitely getting a Strobe and a teal Leek, probably will pick up the blackwash Cryo, and there's a couple of other designs I may or may not buy as well. CRKT has 2 machetes I'll be getting, and I may pick up that karambit Minimalist. Condor I'll be picking up at least half their lineup. Cold Steel, I'll be picking up a Thai machete, an Eland, and...probably nothing else unless that Bowie drops below $100. I wouldn't MIND having a Grosse Messer for example, but with a street price probably close to $200, I'm not likely to buy it simply cause the sword won't be something I can use.
And to Humint, NOBODY is asking for substandard folders. You seem to be under the impression that if they brought a folder out this year it would be substandard-they have put out new folders like EVERY other year without putting out substandard ones, so why do you think it would be different this year?
