Cold Steel ads, the very worst.

I got a Cold Steel DVD at the Blade Show one year form Lynn and I have to admit I was grateful. I took it home and watched it, and to be honest I was entertained. I thought it was good promotion. After hearing you guys rag on the DVD so much I kinda agree with some of the criticism, but I have to say IMHO Lynn is a good guy making pretty good knives for those guys that want something a little different. I don't own any cold steel knives , but I think the cold steel promotion video is good fan service to knifenuts.

I agree. As I've said, I understand some of the criticism levelled at Lynn/Cold Steel, but all this "Lynn is the devil incarnate and his knives are all complete crap" talk is pure tripe. Are the DVDs pure, unadulterated salesmanship and showmanship? Uh...yeah...that's sort of the whole idea: to sell stuff. So what? As another member said, nobody's tying anyone down and forcing them to watch. I like Cold Steel and will continue to buy their products. If others don't, that's their choice. It's as simple as that. Cold Steel, like Strider, will continue to generate controversy for generations to come, but it's up to each individual to seperate the hysteria and hype from the truth and make their own decision as to where their money goes.

would you buy a used car from this man?

They market to the mall ninja level . . . despite the fact that many of their fixed blade knives are just fine. Stupid, yes but effective, they're still in business.

I just find them to be good amusment.

never owned a product of theirs and I don't really care to.

Their dvds are much more impressive before you join a forum like this and learn more about steels, blade types, etc., and what knives in general are capable of. Having said that, I still enjoy watching them. Nothing wrong with watching folks cut stuff up with knives and swords. Just enjoy them from that perspective and don't take them too seriously, and they can be quite entertaining. Ultimately, I tend to agree with shecky's responses all around.

Hey, Bors, care to share some of that popcorn? THis could be a long night...:D

disclaimer: I'm sure Cold Steel makes some decent blades.

But the reason I find the DVD's so hilarious is that the good folks who are on the camera Want to be taken seriously or are trying to sell their wares in "a serious tone" which makes it doubly amusing :D

I just like seeing stuff get cut up. I really could care less what it is. I've never owned any CS products, but that's because they just aren't what I'm looking for. I also like to know what kind of steel I'm buying, not what a company chooses to call it.

Oh yeah.

Strider sucks. Mad Dog Sucks. Sebenzas are overrated. INFI is the same as CarbonV. Does anyone have any opinions on Smith and Wesson knives?. What is the best survival knife?

Now we can get this thread into the 300 pages it deserves.

You know Spark, if you could just give us a "Dead Horse" forum that purged itself every other day, you could really save on storage space.

I'm seriously tempted to just put up a wikipedia type thing so that people can reference the major topics and threads like these can be shut down with a "READ THE DAMN WIKI"

Where do you get this infamous DVD? I've heard of its hilarity for quite a while now, but haven't had the pure, unadulterated pleasure of laughing at it yet. And did people say it's free???

Fill out a form on thier web site. They'll keep sending them to you forever.

I have four of their knives, I think their knives are sharp and very rugged. The
dvd(s) can't be taken too seriously.
