Cold Steel= flat out liars

Yeah, I figured whomever really wants to see the end result will be able to find it on their own. Heck, you can just put "DngrRuss1" in a Google search and click on the 3rd link if you want to make it easy. Then Google the name you get........

Regards,
3G
Then you'll find Russel. One more google and you'll find. . .

someone getting caught lying about shilling for Cold Steel, which is probably a lot worse than being honest about shilling for Cold Steel.

Cold Steel doesn`t make any of thier own knives. They contract other knife companies to make them, and then Cold Steel sells them. (That`s why Ontario used to have a knife that looked "just like" the CS Trailmaster....Ontario was making them and when CS was late paying thier bills Ontario sold them to cover costs) Soquality will vary frommodel to model because they`re made by different companies. That being said, They do have high standards and most of the CS products I`ve seen have been good. But they`re over-priced for a factory made knife.

"Carbon V" (Is it "V", or is that a roman numeral 5? Nobody seems sure.) isn`t a trademarkedsteel, it`s a trademarked name. Big difference. It allows them to make thier knives out of whatever steel thier contracted makers have on hand and call it Carbon V.... and when they say nobody else has Carbon V they`re right, technically. It`s a neat marketing trick.

It's good to hear some positive things about CS. I had heard not so good things about their warranties. Enough and I might have to reconsider my opinion of some of their higher knives. One of my biggest problems with CS might have nothing to do with their knives whatsoever, actually--no store anywhere around carries CS knives, or in any significant porportion. Interestingly, lots of stores carry their arc angels here. I can try so very few of them, and I'm thus left to conclude about the company through the reports of others.

One of the reasons few places carry them is because of Lynn Thompson`s habit of sueing people at the drop of a hat. That and a few years ago he went to a the biggest gun show in California and began selling to the the public at less than he was charging his dealers. It pissed alot of people off.

All true. But now Carbon V is no more. It was a steel Camillus used and with Camillus gone, Cold Steel has done away with the pretence and is labeling the steels used overseas more traditionally.

Camillus used the same steel on the Becker line, and Case uses it as CV, for Chrome Vanadium. Hmmm, CV for Carbon V! :) Although Cold Steel calls it "carbon five" not "carbon vee".

Glad your happy.

While you purchace your second rate products from a company thats detrimantal to the knife industry as a whole, good companies like Cammilus go out of business.

But as long as their sharp I guess.

Not the biggest Cold Steel fan, but how was Cold Steel detrimental to Camillus? If anything Cold Steel probably a plus to some of the American firms, as they contract out for all of their knives.

If your giving your money to Cold Steal, your not giving that money to a more deserving company.

But the bigger picture is that the over the top advertizing that LT and crew put out makes those of us that carry knives look like maniacs.

Anyone who disagrees with that point of view I suggest that you keep a copy of any of the given Solid Proof videos with you at all times. In the event that you need to use a knife to defend yourself, give that video to the prosicuter on you court case.

I'm sure the chubby man on the video dancing around talking about "devistating wound channels" will help to get you off.

What kind of strange logic is this? I guess that statement makes sense to those who hate Cold Steel. Seems that Camillus was a quality subcontractor to Cold Steel.
.

I see that you chose to ignore the photos earlier in this thread of the CS knives broken in half at the tang. Made by Cammilus.....Yes.

But the design flaws are pure Cold Steal, like the stress point at the tang.

I know, you would love to paint those who dislike CS as nut jobs but I'd like to think that people who would frequent places like Bladeforums would care about more than the pricepoint of the knives they purchase.

I guess were both wrong.

As for the “Nut” case label, you are right: I am unfair. But the arguments against Cold Steel are so strong, have little or nothing to do with “product” or “performance”, seem at times so irrational, that I often loose my cookies. Producing sarcastic posts.

See, for me, thats my biggest gripe with CS.

As far as product, Cold Steel knives aren't top of the line, but they are for the most part decent usable peices.

As for performance, they perform as well or better in some cases than others on the market.

As for warranty, I've heard a few complaints, but far more good experences than bad.

Its the ethics of the company that stick in my craw.

Stealing designs, the questionable advertizing, taking pot shots at other makers, overhyping the abilities of the products and being shady when it comes to naming steels and other minor things.

As I've said before, I don't know LT and don't think he's the devil. All I have to go on is his public image, and frankly, its not very flattering.

Pardon. I don't understand. Are you referring to the post in which Walkingman determiend that Russell is located in the "same area code" as Cold Steel (along with how many millions more?)?

Not that I doubt that Russell is an apologist for CS.

What amazed me after a Google search is how many forums Russell belongs to.

The area code and multiple forum appearances is not the only thing you'll find.

Ah, business is a very rough and tumble thing. Not for the faint of heart, and very messy. To mangle a quote: "Business is like sausages. It's better not to see them being made.".

Perhaps that is why Christ said the meek shall inherit the earth. The nasty ones are going to grab it first.

This is true, but not the rule.

I chose to support companies that have a public image that aligns more with my personal ideals and values.

I have a Spyderco riding in my pocket as I type this.

Yes. One finds lots of stuff in 600+ hits. But what am I missing about the suppsoed link to CS? Is this a secret handshake thing? :D Name+coldsteel or Thompson = 4 hits and nothing relevant.

Is this a secret handshake thing? :D

This IS a secret handshake thing. It takes a bit of searching, which is playing silly games. Anyone who has a big bad secreet to impart should just come out with it, and not expect people to hunt around without knowing what they're looking for.

Russell has a web page at the Cold Steel website, that's all. I don't recall the url, but it was posted somewhere in all this.... It's a page with a picture or two of Russell and some info about his martial arts.

tell me of a fixed blade better then a cs recon scout with 5/16 spine or trail master for strenghth an toughness?
