Cold Steel: new for 2012

Am I the only one disgusted with the price on the gurkha kukri? you can get one from HI for significantly less, and it will probably be better build quality.

I'm sort of confused by Cold Steel and their "faux G-10". After Kershaw released the Skyline and Spyderco brought out the Chinese G-10-handled series, I sorta figured that G10 on inexpensive knives was now pretty viable, profit-wise. Aren't they having these made in Taiwan or China now, anyway?

Either way, I'm wholly underwhelmed. Cold Steel could pique my interest by simply releasing some of their staples in different colors. Gimme a blue-handled American Lawman or some Voyagers in various colors and watch me snap up more than a few. They ought to be capitalizing on the idea of making knives that look friendly to the masses, but are still... *cringe*... tactical.

It's going to be a lot less money on other sites , You will probably be able to get it in the mid 100$ range.

There are some great knives to be excited about in the 2012 line. I especially like the micro and mini recon and the hunter line.

I hope this wasn't it... it has been largely underwhelming. And this from a huge cold steel fan.

I will probably pick up some of the machetes and the smaller Recon 1's, but nothing else.

Wow, they downgraded the handle materials in several models (like the mini-tac and pro-guard lines) from real G-10 to faux G-10 and raised the prices several dollars :/ Pretty disappointing stuff.

I kinda liked the more traditonal lock backs also I'm just tad bit interested in the survival edge no clue why but ever since my youth I've had a soft spot in my heart for hollow handled " survival knives ".

I will be getting a hold out 1 as soon as they're available. I love the blade shape and you don't come across handles like that one too often (extremely versatile).

I like the orange hollow-handled survival knife. I had a cheap Rambo knife when I was 12 and it would be nice to get a good one...

Like the Tuff, too.

I'm happy to see they're finally doing a plain edge spear point recon 1.
used to be you could only get it with the 50/50 edge - and I hate serrations.
I'm disappointed in the specs for the viking axe - only 1/8" thick but still weighing in at better than 4.5 pounds?

Now i'm disappointed, after seeing the info on their website....Faux G10, delrin stag? Their sword prices are still extremely high. Come on, you can do better than that. I wish they would contract another USA maker (like Camillus) to make some of their knives again.

I'm fairly interested in those new folding hunters... Maybe see if I can get the Delrin replaced with some nice wood or real stag/bone. The new machetes look interesting, too.

i like the looks of the old kopis better, altho would have to handle in person to make a real opinion

The new one looks more historically accurate, and that appeals to me. Not much else in the 2012 line up does though.

A little piece of me died inside when I saw the Shasqua had an MSRP of $689.99, which is double their already slightly overpriced swords. It's too bad because I really enjoy that design, perhaps they'll ditch the engravings and release it for a more reasonable price.

Indeed :(
Still, the designs look good, the mini and micro recons look decent, as does the tuff lite and jungle machete

The holdout is pretty awesome but not very practical. I like the hunters though. I may get one if the price and knife materials are good. The other stuff seems more collectable than carryable. I have too much already.

I have the Ti-Lite VI in zytel. 6" blade, something like 13" overall. Why on earth would they make another model like that?

I'd wave and double edge that Hold Out.

Of course you would. I bet almost everyone here saw that knife and said to themselves, "You know, Matt will probably 'wave' that knife . . . " :p

My Ti-Lite VI is pretty hard to open with the stud, but the Holdout might be easier with the Tri-Ad lock.
