Cold Steel: new for 2012

Out of every possibility, I would have given a lot for a pocket bushman mini. The pb is a great knife but with it's size people ask me why I carry a bowie around for skinning fruit.

More and more like "Comic-Book Steel." I honestly think they're past the point of no return in anime-ninja land. Or toon-town. Or wherever they're outsourcing now.

I shall not be patronizing this company again.

Except that they make stuff that works, and works well. When they want to be Cold Steel is right up there with Kershaw and Spyderco in knife design and quality (they just aren't too big on super steel).

Yep. Just like any other company, pick and choose the ones you like. Recon Scout is an excellent work-horse

My Ka-Bar Mule has AUS-8A steel as does my Cold Steel 2012 Voyager. And both can be brought back to paper slicing sharpness with a light touch up on a Sharp Maker. I haven't cut any comic books with them as that is not my reading material of choice. They have however performed well on wildlife gutting\cleaning and wood processing.

Yeah I actually really like AUS-8. It's very "reasonable" steel. Does a lot of tasks very well while keeping the cost down. I find a lot of knives made with it perform beyond what their asking price would indicate. It's not the latest and greatest, and it doesn't have record-setting edge retention, but in daily use it's really quite pleasing. To me at least.

You bet.

I just wish they would use 3/16" stock for their L and XL offerings.

HMMM - A plastic shield, some new swords (sure to be WAY overpriced), and a hollow handle survival knife.

Epic Fail.

I have to agree with this, I actually really like their AUS8 because it's so easy to get back to insanely sharp, especially with a Sharpmaker. I actually find myself reaching for my Hold Out III far more often than my other knives because I know I can use it hard (even abuse it at under $40) and it will be back to shaving sharp very quickly. I was a steel snob until I got a Cold steel knife and realized that AUS8 is realistically as a good of a steel as I need.

Yo CM the rajah 2 is 3/16"

I would buy a XL Espada if the blade was 3/16". My custom 4.5" Demko Navajah (Espada) is ground from .200" CPM-154.

:cool: With the Tri-Ad lock, you'd pretty much have an indestructible folding knife. Although that Spartan (4mm thick blade) you sent around a while back did get a workout at our Scout campout, and it didn't flinch.

My Spartan is still as tight now as the day I got it - and it's had a LOT of hard use. I have a thick-bladed Demko custom on my list; sometime in the next couple of years, maybe.

Instead of a larger Hold Out, they should'a made a 3.5" Hold Out and ditch the 3" and 4" versions. From what I've read over the years 3.5" is a more popular blade length, and I agree. I like how they're sticking with the Triad Lock. Definitely a smart move. Other than that, there's nothing that could come close to replacing my CRKT Folding Razel. :)

Thank goodness somebody came up with a new buckler shield for 2012! My old EDC shield was getting worn down to a nub. That buckler would look pretty sweet duracoated in a nice desert digi-camo... it'll make me the disco king of the roller-rink at my next 'Run 'n Plunder' with the fellas! Arrrrh, matey!;):D:rolleyes:

LOL! :) Thanks for the laugh, brother!

BTW, to err is human, but to ARRRHH! is pirate. :D
